Speeding in a shed!

I disagree, my Micra happily cruises at 100 - 110 on the Motorway.

It's a bit shakey at that speed but it's no less safe than any other car, it's down to the drivers skill at the end of the day.

OMG...

I repeat ...

I hope you dont take this as a personal insult but thats is the dumbest most brain dead statement I have heard on these forums.

The missus had a spanky new shape Micra the week it came out (she pre-ordered... dont ask) and it REALLY wouldnt "cruise" at 100mph. It was enough effort to get it to 90mph just to over take a middle lane hog. A Micra (100% from personal experiance, new shape and old in a 1.3l) cruise HAPPILY at about 80mph.

Ignoring the massive tyre arguement you are aware that you have teeny tiny little disc brakes on the front wheels only when you press your break peddle??? God 100mph + emergency braking on tiny thin tyres and tiny disc front breaks....

Not even an emergency break and you are probably in trouble.

There is absolutly no doubt at all by anyone with a IQ that breaks a ton (pun intended) that tanking it in a shed is a "VERY BAD IDEA"tm

The car is not designed to do it - its incredibly dangerous not only for you but for the other road users, especially when you do it in the BMW lane!

MAN SHURRUP

It'll beat your RX8 any time, any place so there.

You've heard of v6. v8... v10..... even v12 but my Micra is a 16v

Engine Size: 998 cc
Cylinders: 4
0-60 mph: 15.9 s
Power Output: 54 bhp
Valves: 16
Torque: 79 Nm
Torque: 58 lb/ft
Top Speed: 93 mph

good luck getting 120 ;) take a GPS and see what the actual speed is ;)

although it always quite funny when you hear of peoples for top speeds in a buzzy citycar "OI GOT 140 ON THE SPEEDO YA" "WHEW MATE I GOT 130 IN MEH 106 1.1!!!!"

Please dont do a hundred and take a photo of it because of a silly argument on an internet forum, we dont need the grief if it goes wrong.

That said I dont think tinpots take longer to slow down especially, because they weigh less in the first place. The brakes will fade quicker but should resist at least one emergency stop imo.

Isnt there a chart somewhere on this forum with peoples stop times measured on some gadget

I've driven @ 144MPH (GPS Proven) in my e38 - according to the book its supposedly only good for 140! - on a private airfield ,obviously, I really shudder to think what would have happened if I'd crashed it at that speed. Airbags or not, I'd have been very dead I think. :(

I've seen plenty of fatal accidents that occured at well under half that speed.

100+ in a Micra? He's Braver than me. ;)

your a very brave man doing over 100 in a micra, i drove a micra on my driving lessons for a bit..

I tend not to go over 80/85 in my escort 1.6, seems happy enough at that speed. It's getting on now, i dont want to stress the poor soul too much :)

Shut it Aussie.

I was gonna go out tonight at about 2am and raz it in 5th on the downhill section of the M5 to get 120 but I really can't be bothered, I've got college at 9am tommorow but I swear down Im'a get that pic, I know it can be done.

As for those stats, WHAT A BEAST, 54bhp, there was me thinking it was 59 but it's still like twice as much as a Veyron. Bags of torque to boot, I can put my Micra in 5th at a standstill and with no accelerator drop the clutch and it won't even stall, it'll just wheelspin to 30mph and then sit at idle.

Seriously though the 0-60 and max speed are out, I assume Nissan do their testing with two people in the car or some other more "real life" way of testing, or just plain carp drivers.

I've timed 0-60 and I get anywhere between 13 and 13.5 seconds which is quite blistering, over 16 secs is a tad slow I must admit. I've had it to just over 110mph before so 93mph is tosh.

it scares me to see people driving cars close to 100% of what theyre capable of on the road. people stupid enough to have that little mechanical sympathy are unlikely to actually be a competant driver either... hence is just a statistic waiting to happen. unfortunately they my kill you, your family etc etc

The thing that irritates me the most about people in slow cars that tank it down the motorway is the lack of consideration when they have to slow down. I had a Ka tailgating me at about 85mph this afternoon so I moved over and waited whilst he wound the thing up and went passed me. Next thing there's a wagon overtaking a crane on a 2 lane uphill stretch and after the wagon pulls in the Ka remained in the outside lane for about 5 miles, pretty much level with another car whilst he wound back up again.

The other safety issue is that if you have to avoid something you can either brake, steer, or accelerate out of the way (or a combination). If your tanking it at top speed in the outside lane there is absolutely no means for any further meaningful acceleration should it be required to avoid an accident.

How have you timed it, stop watch and speedo is going to be way out.

Firstly, Violent-J you're an idiot.

Secondly, Small engined cars aren't inherently less safe than bigger ones, my 1.2 clio has discs on the front, ABS and handling is pretty responsive, and the tyres are low profile 15's with plenty of grip, doesn't take much road to come down from 80 to 30 or so.

The engine isn't up to extended periods of time at 80mph or higher though, at 80mph you're around 4.5k rpm, 90 would be 5.5k and so on, it'll do 80mph happily albeit noisily , but the engines not built for it.

Ask Dolph or Gilly about the Kia Pride with injection moulded tyres. Or the Golf with it's "what way next" steering. Both of those did over a ton no worries :D You just gotta be committed ;)

I cruised through france at around 90-100mph (indicated) in my loaded up £100 volvo estate, and it handled the 1,300 miles fine :)
Arnt Volvos supposed to be safe though?

Micras are shopping trollys and are designed to drive around the citys of japan.
