Speeding in a shed!

Fair enough, care to elaborate?

Which will stop better, not flip over if you have to swerve at speed, you are driving the micra at the top of its limit and stressing it, the ferrari is just getting rolling at that speed.

I know this is an extreme example but it can be applied to any motorway crusier vs. your micra.

I'm saying once I'm at that speed, it maintains it with ease, the accelerator just needs pressing every 5 seconds or so to keep it up.

That's not really cruising though :)

I dont really get what you're saying about the accelerator pedal needing work to keep the car up to speed. It's a progressive implement, not a switch.

Yeah totally, course a Ferrari is gonna stop better if someone on the horizon broke down and was stationary in the outside lane, I'd argue that I have great observation and I'd see it early enough even at 100mph to stop in time. That is not likely to happen though and a Micra wouldn't stop any slower than any other average car all be it faster such as a Focus 1.8 Zetec, faster, probably would be argued as safer at 100mph but in terms of braking probably only slightly bigger disks and a lot heavier so no difference.

Well I use to cruise at 100mph indicated in the chinqo shakey. But not inherintly dangerous. The only thing that it is more dangerous, as you said is if someone pulls out infront of you. But then you'r pretty much going to crash whatever.

I'm sorry but most decent cars could outbrake a Micra, I would imagine that most hot hatches would stop well before your Mircra did, again you tyres are much more likely to have a problem stopping you from 100Mph than a wide sports tyre.

So thats why my Scalextric cars never lasted beyond a rainy Sunday afternoon!

:)

Presumeably its already been said but any car will do about 100 in a straight line with a bit of effort. Its what you have to do to corner/slow down/drive appropriately that things come a bit unstuck in less capable cars.

(Down hill M40 through the cutting 1997ish 1984 1L Metro 110mph nearly - oh yes!)

Sure a Micra can drive 100mph but that's not the point, the point is a Z4 is safer because it brakes better when there is a accident in front of you, it has better handling to quickly avoid hitting some stuff dropped by a lorry on the road and if compared to a older car has better safety beams and airbags should you crash.

You've come out with some comedy gold over the past few days, plz post more :D

Haha thanks m8. :D Right leaving work now, I'll be on later tonight with a photo of hopefully an indicated 115mph+ Just need to find some downhill motorway.

I absolutely assure you that a Ford Focus would stop MUCH quicker than your Micra.

Or maybe just get somebody in a fast car to give you a pull ;)

You get a photo of it on a GPS unit then.

TBH its all rather irrelevent anyway. The whole point is that it is safer in a car more suited to high speeds. Not whether or not your can reach 115.

Quite possibly not as the micra will weight a fair bit less (a focus is as heavy as my old volvo 940 ffs) and tyre contact area will be similar. A micra will probably use T rated tryes which are rated for upto 118mph, I'm not sure if lower rated tyres are still made.

I'd sit at an indicated 105mph on the motorway in my first car - a 1.1 Fiat Uno. seemed reasonably safe at the time, but now I've driven some non tin cans, I know that I'd rather take my chances at that speed in something a bit better constructed. Then again, it's rare that I exceed 90 nowadays.

i agree with that doing 90+ in a 2001 punto 1.2ltr makes the car shake quite abit i'd imagine if that we're a proper 1.6 saloon it would breeze at 100+ without judders.

wierd, ive been in a punto at a ton and it wasnt shaking at all, felt totally planted

headrat - i dont think you can get car tyres rated that low  mine are cheapey cheapo mc cheap and still H (115mph) which also happens to be the book top speed of the car

i dont see how 110 can feel stable in a car with such a tiny engine, surely is must be screaming at those sort of speeds? mine starts to sound unpleasant above about 85, even though it has still got another 30 left in it (apparently, i havent tried)

but cruising bang on a cars top speed cant be overly pleasant
