speeding, what am i likely to get

Drexel, the fact is, speed kills, plain and simple. at 95 mph you are doing nearly 140 feet per second. What if a deer or animal was to run out or summit, there was debris on the road, or another accident around the corner. At 140ft/sec you are dangerous.

No, Speeding does not kill. Excessive speed for the conditions and situation kills. 2 HUGELY different things. People don't instantly die when I go quickly. People die being hit at 30mph in town, or being crushed between 2 cars in cities going at 10mph. Speed is only dangerous if it is excessive for the situation. i.e. 70mph on the motorway in bad visibility and lots of rain = dangerous and excessive speed. 90+mph on an empty, well laid motorway in a dry sunny day is safer than the previous example.

Let's get things into perspective before stating generic rubbish.

Rilot, what do these combined speed and red light scameras look like?

Also, with regards to speed kills I would imagine a car like Drexels could stop from 90mph in the same distance mine could from 70mph.

If numbers could describe wether a situation was dangerous or not we wouldnt even require human judgement in the first place, a computer can easily balance a sum so there is a great deal more to consider imo

If its the one on the A21 just before the tonbridge turning, its 70 as its dual carridgeway. Its just after quite a gradual bend and if you miss it, you're driving with your eyes closed :)

I drive past it every day on the way home from my girlfriends house. I always make sure I go past it at 60 though; speed cameras scare me

And here is this months OcUK motors OMG SPEED KILLS !!!!one111 merchant :D

Speed in itself doesn't kill, innapropriate use of speed does.

The deer thing: Trust me, there are no deer likely to run out on the stretch of road I am talking about. If I were travelling through a place where animals are likely to be running into the road, I wouldn't be driving at anywhere near those speeds. It's about using APROPRIATE speed, not just sticking to a number on a sign.

The debris thing: A road that I consider 95 mph safe would be long and straight, amongst other things. If there were random 'debris' lying in the road I would see it way before it would be a problem.

Accident around the corner: I wouldn't drive at 95mph around a blind corner, that would be ridiculous, and an INNAPROPRATE USE OF SPEED.

Stop listening to the Scamera propaganda, and have a read of this website:

Safespeed.

Ok yeah in certain conditions you can do 95+ mph, but i'd only consider this usually on a motorway (like one of those sleepy days when nothing is on the motorway) and the dual carriageways that are near enough the same as motorways, but tbh i think i'd need to see the road to perhaps show me better. i just can't help but feel a little bit irresponsible when im doing 90mph+ and not only that: 96mph and its an instant ban. To be fair however, again, i'd need to see the road if i was to pass judgement.

As my nan always used to say: "Better to be an hour late than 4 minutes earlier to heaven."

(doddering old fool :D )

Perhaps the OP can post some pictures of the road so you can deliver your final verdict? :p

Really, when did the law change? My dad got 6 points and a hefty fine for doing 99.9mph but not a ban about 5 years ago.

95 in a 60 is a ban usually , in a 70 it is normally over 100

Speed kills... heh.

ask yourself this, could you drive a car safely without a working speedometer? I know I could

anything 30mph over the speed limit will go to court, but you have 14 days for them to notify you of impending prosecution.

so, hope to god you dont get anything in the post or youll be in front of the mags.

95 is not instant ban, 100+ is.. .. .. ..

as a reference I got caught doing 99.33 in a 60, went to court they tried to ban me but I argued my case and they gave me 5 points and a 535 pound fine.

if you need a license to do your job take a letter from your employer saying so, I think my fine was big mainly due to me missing the first court hearing as I was in mauritius on holiday and secondly becuase I was driving a lightly modified 911, so they guessed they could take me for more cash since it was apparent i had a few bob, although the truth is im skint! :(

Yep gonna get a letter from my commercial director if i get a letter in the post and i have to go to court. I work as a computer technician so have to drive offsite with equipment to repairs systems etc so need to drive.
Would I need to get a solicitor if i go to court and is one provided for me or do i need to hire one myself. Never been in trouble with the law before other than a sp30 in 2001 so don't know how the system works.

Nice to see the usual amount of "speeding doesn't kill" posts and the usual "it's only the inappropriate use of speed" yada yada yada
The OP has already admitted that the camera was on or around a bend and it managed to "come up on him" so fast that he was unable to adjust his speed acordingly.
Open & shut you'd have thought - because if you cannot slow down in time for a ******* big yellow camera what chance somebody or something lying in the middle of the road as you rounded the same corner at the same speed?

the duty solicitor wont be able to assist since its not a "serious" offence, thats what I was told anyways.
