It's not easy to manufacture, although some companies are producing, I believe, artificial spider silk for use in the military; armour etc.

It's not the /same/ as steel - you couldn't contruct things out of it, it's just weight for weight stronger!

PLUS

How long do you think it would take to make one tonne of spider silk? giant spider farms?!

Even synthetically I don't think they can make it, and even in that quantity.
