Here be the rules -

1) Treat other posters with respect. Do not belittle their club or use unflattering nicknames for either the poster, their club or anyone associated with the club including players - if you're in any doubt then don't use the phrase or email a moderator prior to use.

2) The SPL thread is only for discussion of footballing matters - you may feel strongly about something your club has done in the past or something another club has done but this is not the thread to discuss it in.

3) Don't bait other fans in an attempt to get them to respond insensibly, that's covered by the general prohibition against trolling - if you do this then you can expect repercussions.

4) These rules are simply an extension to the standard Football Stadium rules here, they still apply so do yourself a favour and make sure you're acquainted with both sets before posting.

5) Try to enjoy yourself and let others do the same. It's unfortunate that the rules need to be spelled out in such a fashion but we don't want to see anyone banned because of a lack of clarity.

Right lads, bhoys and bears, let's not let this thread get off to a bad start and at no time do we want banter truning into outright baiting. The world is watching so let's behave ourselves while also poking gentle fun at our nearest rivals everytime they slip up.

Aberdeen 4-0 Hamilton Accies
Motherwell 2-3 Hibernian
Rangers 2-1 Kilmarnock
Inverness Caley 0-1 Celtic
St Mirren 1-1 Dundee Utd
Hearts 1-1 St Johnstone

Aberdeen top the table for now with Celtic, Rangers and Hibernian only sitting behind due to goal difference. Let's see how things pan out over the next few weeks.

clampdown on rule breaks

From now there will be zero tolerance of trolling, trouble causing and sectarian posting

Celtic and Rangers will be referred to as Celtic and Rangers and nothing else, what some consider acceptable others do not

Punishments will go in stages

1 - Infraction
2 - 7 Day suspension
3 - 14 day suspension
4 - 28 day suspension and removal of Sports Arena access rights

Members who already have history may start at the 7 day suspension level

and so it starts.

im a part time celtic fan, but it doesnt look good for the old firm this year, both of them are in trouble and i could see this being the closest title race ever, with quite a few upsets.

I'm used to Aberdeen topping the table before the league starts, but whoa, still there :p

Won't be there for long I suspect, though I don't think Rangers or Celtic are going to have a particular easy ride this year

exactly.

rangers are broke. does anyone know how much debt they are in or are they ok now after clearing out? with boyd gone they can now finally draw/lose some games without him popping up in the 88th minute for a goal.

celtic have still yet to build a team after it being ripped apart by mowbray. with a young un-experienced manager at the helm, its going to have some shock defeats.

They were something like £30million in debt, but it seems like they made a healthy profit last year of £13million according to Wiki. Not sure how much of that was player sales though.

I rate this ineptitude as being 8.5 on the Kirk Broadfoot scale. :D

It's odd as he's managed to get it right when talking about Hibs' position in the table.

Slightly disappointing that Hearts didn't manage an opening day win at home especially with St Johnstone down to 10 men but nevermind, Hamilton up next.

£75odd Million takeover by a Russian in the papers this morning

Clicky

hes worth £200 million, he buys a club for £75 million with £30 million debt. if he wipes out debt its £105 million. that's half of his money on a club, now he has £95 million to spend and if he ever does spend it, will he see a return?

just isnt good business sense, although he is a dodgy businessman so may be wanting to buy the club as a front for money laundering scams with the russian underworld of the UK. I dont see it happening.

Great start by Aberdeen and in all honesty we should have been 6-0 up (2 shots hit the bar). If things go well we could be sitting top for another few weeks since if we play like we did at the weekend, we should win the next two games too ;)

First time we have won our opening game (at Pittodrie) since 1994

I am originally from Perth.

Managed to get to the first game of the season since it was in Edinburgh. Would have been happy with a draw before the match, so not let down, especially when we went down to 10 men.

Bias may be taking over here, but Suso is a cheat.

Hopefully you bring a good support down on Saturday off the back of the first game, we need the money.

Good to see you actually trying against anyone other than The Rangers. ;)

Off topic but trying to sort out something I find particularly annoying.

McRod, three posts in three minutes! Please condense them into one post or it looks (to me anyway) as if you are simply trying to up your post count. It is also stated in the rules of decorum for this thread that no baiting or insults are allowed so please, no more 'Septic' comments.

Even more remarkable was the single penalty awarded against Rangers at Ibrox. Seriously, it really happened!

threads been open a week and already a suspension, some people never learn.

Celtic playing Utrecht who finished 9th in the Dutch League, should be an easy win. Dundee Utd playing Athens if i recall correctly, who have rangers got? Hopefully if all 3 go far, Scotland's ranking will go up, if they dont it could get worse for the money going into Scottish football.
