Splatoon - Wii U

^^ Splatfests are like a weekend-long event where you get presented with a one-time choice between two categories (e.g. the weekend just gone was "Sleeping" vs. "Eating") you make your choice and become part of that team for the weekend (it cannot be changed)

During the event any lobby matches you play in will place you specifically with other members of the team you are on (and against a team comprised of entirely members of the other team). The winning team of each match score 1 point for their Splatfest team.

At the end of the weekend the final scores are calculated based on the sum of the percentage of "votes" for each team, plus 2x the percentage of wins the teams had over the weekend. (So for e.g this weekend team "Eating" had something like 69% of the votes, and team "Sleeping" had about 55% of the wins, but overall this meant that the "Eating" team won the Splatfest (as 69.0 + 45.0*2 > 31 + 55.0*2)

TL;DR It's a little gimmick where you pair off into 2 big teams for the weekend

I'm still only lvl 6... enjoying the game though it can be a bit rage-inducing at times; some weapon combinations seem to be quite difficult to deal-with (but I'm sure it'll all come with experience). The matchmaking during Splatfest seems to struggle a bit more than usual so it wasn't uncommon to end up having a full-team of lvl-20 guys going against a team of sub lvl-10s and it being a complete stomping...

Cheers for the reply :) ... that's a pretty good idea I'll have to join in on the next one !

New trailer showing new maps, gatling gun and... bucket! https://youtube.com/watch?v=KuJENO8M23I

The big update is apparently due to hit on 6th August, which will include private lobbies, tag match etc:

EDIT:

On 6th August, a free software update for Splatoon on Wii U brings a large amount of new content to the game, including two new matchmaking modes, new weapon types, an increase to the game’s level-cap and more than 40 pieces of new gear. Players will now be able to create a winning strategy and fight to be the best and most battle tested squid-squad around.

Mario Kart and Splatoon have shown that devs can be realistic with updating the content of the game. I just wish the Smash content was as reasonable as Mario Kart's...

I have neglected Splatoon recently though, since the last map update. I've not played it at all (think I've been dragged into the Street Fighter IV hype post-Evo).

Game arrived today. Spent 3 hours on it so far and loving it, so addictive. Haven't settled on a loadout I like yet, still getting to grips with the game. Is 20 the max rank? Been playing against a lot of Japanese level 20's.

Update is live for this ;

More than 40 pieces of new gear
Two new weapon types, the Slosher and Splatling
Squad Battles
Private Battles
Level Cap Increase
Ranked Battle Level Increase
Updates to Urchin Underpass
New Music

Stirling loving this game, it's awesome fun :D

Nice to see some maps with more of the single player elements in them. This is a tremendous value game (I got it for £18, but it's much less than £30 everywhere I see).

I also seem to be one of the few who appreciate the drip feed of content. It gives you the chance to get to know a map very well before more are added due to the enforced rotation. I think they'll do the same with control mechanics now after seeing the trailer.
