Split Air con

It is complete and utter bliss. Setting the bedroom to 19C is just spot on for us. I would love some solar to offset the cost, but the reality is, it's not costing a lot to run at all thankfully.

Ive found 21 to be my ideal now, but in the day having it set to 16 and cooling the entire house, while costing nothing as its 100% powered by the solar, what a combo.... what a combo indeed...

21 seems nice for the Living room, I do like it a bit cooler to sleep in though.

That is a superb combo, cooling the house, not costing you anything nor burning fossil fuels.

It is the perfect combo to be fair - when you need the most AC is when it's (usually) much sunnier so they go hand-in-hand.

We've just moved (finally!) and we've got our master bedroom + en-suite, and two reception/living rooms on the south-facing (186º) side. Just trying my best to juggle blinds and windows and vents today as we're forecast to hit about 27ºC, and I've got the day off work.

I've lost track of how many times I've recommended Air con to friends and family, faced with the usual "it's only hot one or two days in this country" when the reality is, it's far far more, and people don't seem to think over years rather than assuming it's something you buy once for a year and get rid of etc.

With that said, I am standing on a ground of hypocrisy, as I've championed split air con, but still don't have it :D albeit I have 2 portable units, one downstairs and one upstairs plumbed into outside walls. I've used the excuse 'we may not stay in this house, we may move soon etc etc' to stop a proper install being done.

A question would be, it's a 3 bed semi-detached house, I figured a 2 unit split a/c, one in the lounge for sure, and one upstairs - but, main bedroom would be selfish, as I have 2 children, not that they have moaned about the heat as kids generally don't notice like adults, but would putting one in the upstairs landing cool all the upstairs rooms? Or is that not feasible?

Sure, just get a larger unit and leave the doors open.

Having just 1 of my bedroom/office units on full blast with the doors open is able to bring the whole upstairs to a "comfy" level, with all 3 on it cools downstairs also after a while.

Or you could install a loft unit and have air con in all the rooms :)

Any recommendations for a company doing split aircon in Watford area?
Have a semi detached bungalow with an extension and a converted loft which i use as my home office. Gets a bit toasty now - reached 30C yesterday!

We used Hertfordshire Air Con. https://www.hertfordshireaircon.co.uk/

Not sure if the cheapest, but they did a great job. Unsurprisingly they’ll be very busy this time of year.

I had that setup originally and I needed to use floor fans to push the air into my bedroom to cool it down, Same when I was in the spare room as using this as my office / computer room.

Now I've upgraded to a triple system, 2.5kw in the office, Hall Way and my bedroom (I have a single 5kw for the dinning room / living room, This seems to be far better than the original setup.

Yeah dedicated units are much better. I found the unit in our bedroom with fans blowing out will keep our daughters room from getting too hot, but it doesn't really bring the temperature down. It would probably need to be on 24/7 to cool it all down.

Among the best, we have one of their models. Not the cheapest option.
Thinking 3 units upstairs one for each bedroom.
Then at a later date 2 big ones downstairs one for the living room and one for the dining room/kitchen.

I know I'd regret it if I went cheap and only did the master bedroom and living room.

Wow that must be freezing, I feel cold when I wake up sometimes with it set to 22C over night :) 23C-24C is our sweet spot for sleeping, we are in a new build and upstairs temps go way past 30C most of the summer so even 24C feels like bliss.

We also have solar going in next month at some point will be great to be able to run the units guilt free!

Ours is a new build too. Anything above 20C feels unbearable now haha. Always got windows open in winter, nice and cool is lovely.

I'm hoping to add some solar next year, probably a bit of a DIY job with the roof space of the cabin in the garden, should certainly help offset some of the usage.

Am I right in thinking that during the winter you can use the AC system as a dehumidifier? That would be a huge bonus as we currently use one in the cold months.
