Split Air con

How did they route the pipework and electrical for the lantern unit?

A tight 45 angle from the exterior skim. He wanted to trunk inside but I asked to try drilling at an angle first and sure enough it worked. Chuffed about an hour in and it’s a comfortable temperature in there.

Amazingly despite 3 rooms with air con working pretty hard at the moment, our whole house is still only using 13p an hour of electricity. That’s including me gaming. They really are efficient systems.

That doesn't sound right I think? 3 units will use a chonk of electric each, more than a few hundred watts each probably, minimum of 1kwh combined I reckon, if not more.

They aren’t on full, but they’re easily managing the heat. I don’t think they’ve ever been close to full capacity. Currently using 1kw exactly at 19p per hour. Not bad really seeing as this’ll be the hardest they work today. Worth every penny. We do have some of the most efficient units that were on the market at the time.

Are they Zen's Cap'n?

Yeah I'm honestly surprised at how little electric they're using.

I mean so far this week we’ve used 20kWh according to the app. That’s with two bedrooms air conned at night and most of the house in the day. Usually set at around 23C. All blinds/curtains/windows closed. Last year we used 291kWh cooling the house - mostly in the summer months, although I use it in my gaming room in the winter too. Even with current electricity prices that’s cheap.

Daikin Emura:

I'm guessing it's best to have these fitted after decorating?
Also is it possible to have more indoor units fitted at a later date, while still keeping only the single outdoor unit?

Our extension room (which is in itself basically a greenhouse for sunlight) nearly touched 38c today. Whacked the AC on and brought it right down. Lovely jubbly

Is that power consumption just for the aircon units, and is that measured in the app for the AC? If so that's pretty cool.

I'm waiting for them to come out and fit the WiFi units to mine as they got sent the wrong ones. Pretty sure it won't have power monitoring though. I could always fit a clamp meter or something though and integrate it with home assistant.

Our Daikin "stylish" have the power monitoring, didn't ask for it or anything so it looks like it's a standard feature

Just for the aircon units, measured in the Daikin app. It’s brilliant. You can look at each unit in turn or all of them, comparing to the previous day/week/year.

It’s the kind of thing I nerd out on. It’s also reassuring that they aren’t bleeding your wallet dry and to actually use them when and as required.

We ignore the bit where my wife decided to heat one room to excess during lockdown. I try to avoid using them to heat the house vs cheaper gas.

All commissioned today, perfect timing. Lovely and cool
Looks like the same units as mine to be fair had both mine on upstairs all
Day has kept the temperature down with ease.

My office is at a chilly 20 degrees.

Walked out wearing a hoodie, and the heat hit me like a blast furnace :D

God damn air con is good, and the solar panels are producing enough to cover all 3 units being on.
very similar here, I actually turned the aircon off at one point as I was too cold, 1 of my customers commented about it being nice and chilly, didn't think much of it, until about 5:30 when I walked outside. JESUS!.

Think I'm gonna have to suffer another summer without it at home though and get it fitted later in the year ready for next summer.

That's cool, the mitsubishi app is so poor in comparison. Had AC on most of the day upstairs, so so comfy and once it was down to work 400 or so hundred Watts an hour ticking over keeping the temp down.

As someone said above, I've been very pleasantly surprised at the running costs. According to the smart meter, having the lounge unit running yesterday was adding 10p per hour to our electric.

Ah that's very cool. Mine don't have that. But looking at energy usage overall for the house, they're certainly not costing all that much to run.
