Spoilers Ahoy!!! Football 22 - Jan 2011

Seriously, why the hell do you get a yellow card for certain celebrations??

it's a health and safety rule. players running up to and into the crowd has caused injuries to fans in other countries (mainly south america) there has been an instance(s?) of the seating collapsing, though this is highly unlikely in a prem ground. i can understand why the rule is there and the ref didn't really have a choice in the west ham match. got to stick to the rule book.

Classy cheekyness from Torres as expected, brilliant.

I watched that and I thought that Torres was a bit daft and shouldn't of kept getting involved in these niggles and little arguements and kept biting back when the defenders where clearly trying to rattle him BUT I burst out laughing when he did that, love the way he stays straight faced.

So with a goalscoring record that looks impressive over the last 5 years why has no big team ever really considered Bent - is he too wasteful (ie needing 3 or 4 chances for every goal he gets)

The past record is equal to Rooney and Drogba, but never thought he was worth anything like £24m (or 3m less than Dzeko, although how good he is in the EPL remains to be seen, although he looked ok yesterday)

Steve Bruce must be ready to slit his wrists now... good finish, hart should have turned it round the post though. should make it a good game now - we will see what man city are made of.

why..sunderland won today...1 point behind spurs, 7 points clear of 7th

Yeah I saw the stats where he has scored 82 goals which is the same as Rooney and Drogba but did you also see the amount of games they had all played?

That's probably why he's never gone to a top 4 side.

theres another reason as well..and as a sunderland fan I feel well placed to comment on this

he is one dimensional..he get you goals no argument, but he has to play a certain way, and you end up becoming over reliant on him (at least we did last season) because he is your main goal scoring focus you build the way you play around that, and you either get sussed out by the rest of the league or more simply if he has an off day then you get nothing out of the game.

Villa have a good team that has not been meeting expectations and they have chucked all their eggs into one basket..and it will work, he will keep them up of this I am sure. the trick will be next season, will they just build around Bent as we did and hope it works...we never had a plan B last season.

This season its been different for us and our points, our performances and place in the table reflect this. Gyan will not be as prolific but he has added more to the team, meaning more goals from elsewhere hopefully. (Bent had 1 assist in the season and a half) and its no surprise that our best performances have been Gyan and Welbeck upfront..we play better as a team.

sorry I only caught a glimpse I didnt realise the games was dramatically different for Bent compared ot the other two lol ok fair enough :)

It was only like 18 games more iirc? Still a pretty impressive record considering he hasn't player for a top team so the service is inevitably worse too.

Don't get me wrong it wasn't by a massive amount but you can see how as an out and out striker he really doesn't compare with Rooney or Drogba.

Drogba's stats were immense

I was going to say that City can't buy goals but with Bent costing £24m and scoring the winner, that doesn't really sound right.

Football is funny.

Also to be fair guys the fact that he's played more games shouldn't be viewed too harshly, at the end of the day if you are spending £20m+ on a striker do you want somebody who is going to be available to play every week or someone who keeps getting crocked/suspended/benched?

Obviously the same goals from fewer games is better but goals:games ratio isn't everything, look at Francis Jeffers for example, he averages a goal every 45mins at international level, compared to say Rooney who must be at least 3-4x worse - who would you prefer to have?

I didn't catch the Arsenal game but from the highlights on MoTD it looked like we should've won by about 9. Nice to see RVP get his first hat trick too, shame he didn't make it 4.

The pretty obvious difference is more games, maybe, but his sub appearances and generally being treated like the last resort at Spurs means he wasn't at his best, yet his strike rate was still essentially on par with his previous clubs, why, because Spurs generated more chances per game than say Ipswich.

Drogba/Rooney may have played less, but they've played at MUCH better teams and are given both better chances, and MORE chances.

Think about the City game, how many touches did Bent even have, his goal was, I'm actually not sure if it was his first touch, but it was amongst only a few touches. Rooney or Drogba 17 minutes into a game will have had loads of the ball and often several chances. Bent had the one chance all game and took it. Almost any striker no matter their quality, will simply score more goals at a great team providing him with more and better chances, than at a bad team.

Terrible game yesterday, Hart gave Bent the chance and it was nailed on he was going to take it, did nothing for the rest of the game mind.
Bad day at the office for Yaya,Silva,Tev and Dzeko. De Jong played well and was unlucky with his shot. Kolarov has started getting into the games now and was by far his best game yesterday. Johnson played on the wrong side for much of the game so i don't know why Mancini even put him on.
As much as it pains me to say i think Mancini should swallow his pride and play Adebayor on sunday and if he doesnt score then that's it his chance is over, Given also needs to play on sunday because i don't know what Hart has been doing differently these past few weeks but his little mistakes are costing us points eg his positioning yesterday and his dropped ball against Leicester.
