He also tried a side volley that ended up in row Z when all he had to do was take it on his chest and get it on target.

I also forgot to say I thought Ashley Cole had a very good game, Ricky just reminded me ;)

At least you made it in. The commentators were saying a lot of people had turned back etc. The first half was absolutely dead as a door nail as far as atmosphere (obviously I was watching it on TV) due to the lack of crowd. I spent most of the first half listening to two guys talking about Stoke FC over the rear channels of the surround sound lol.

Crouch did better than Owen admittedly - who was extremely greedy and could have slotted Croucho in for a certain (and not offside) goal.

yeah i heard that some people turned away,i was given a lift there so it was alright cos there was no parking to worry about.

yeah walcott didnt seem to get much of the ball, but when he did he was running at players but he was too quick for them and ended up being fouled.

I think that will be one of his strong points. As he is still only a boy and fast he will get knocked over a lot and hopefully we can capitalise from the free kicks...i would say penalties but we all know that isnt our strong point lol

they got a bit dirty towards the end, cole, lennon and walcott all got uncermoniously hacked down. lennon was the only bright point of the game imho, crouch was ok, walcott did ok, downing was crap along with the rest of the midfield - it lacked serious drive. i just hope we manage to keep our main midfielders fit until the wc!

I thought we spent most of the time passing it to Lennon as he was the only one putting some effort in myself. We couldn't play it short because there was no presence in the middle (Carrick did next to nothing, Jenas did even less), and both strikers play right up on the last man, so neither were dropping back to link things up. Add to that both wingers playing right out wide and there was simply no-one in the middle to play through.

Yes i know that, the question is WHY?

What goes through Sven's mind at pre match talks?

"well, just play like a bunch of smacktards, that will be all"

The Jenas bashing on here does make me laugh. I don't think you can really judge Jenas on that performance, he's been injured the past month or so and only starting training again this week. He'll always be a poor mans Gerrard though. :)

I've never seen him play a good game. He has been shocking for Spurs and was pretty poor at Newcastle too, i can't understand how he's been called up.

He will always be a poor mans Phil Neville as far as i concerend, Gayness has none of the atributes of a top class midfielder and all the atributes of a big time Charlie, he cant hold a candle to almost any other center mid in the league.

Classic example of a guy who really thinks he is a player, just like Dyer.

Poor mans Phil Neville LOL completely different sort of player. Neville is a defender playing in midfield making him a defensive midfielder at best. Jenas is an attacking midfielder who also puts the work in and tracks back. 6 goals in 30 premiership games isn't to be sniffed at either.

I think you do him an injustice putting him in the same ilk as Dyer. As for his attributes, I'd argue that he has a good work rate going box to box, a good passer and dribbler. Physically he's pretty good all round, and good off the ball usually arriving late in the box.

Good enough to start for England? No
Good enough for the squad? Debatable (oh that's what we're doing :p)

its matches like this that puts me off watching england. a lot of players in that squad are over hyped and paid far too much. i think a good few of them believe in the hype too, as peddled by the bbc and sky etc. i can just vision the style and quality of our games in the world cup. :(

He's not good enough for the premiership full stop, let alone england.
Phil Neville Playing in midfield would offer more than Gayness.
Gayness cant pass, has poor vision, lacks pace and stength, losses possesion, and is generally ineffective, he literally is bypassed for large periods of the game.

I wouldnt have him and a number of the other current squad any where near the england set up.

At what point in a match would you consider the inclusion of Gayness in a team that already had Lampard and Gerrard in the midfield?
There isnt any, if one gets injured you put the far superior Carrick in the side and switch to playing a holding midifield.
Even the lack lustre Beckham is a better choice in all circumstances than playing Gayness, because if one of Lampard and Gerrard wasnt available and Carrick was injured you would move Beckham inside and play Lennon on the wing.
He is a completly pointless inclusion he offers nothing that any of the other midfielders dont already do far better than him already.
He is a wasted team slot, especially cosidering the paucity of striking options Sven has limited himself to.

You only need Neville & any of the CB's injured to leave us without enough cover for both positions:)

Nah, If Neville and a CB are injured then Carragher and Campbell replace them. No need for Hargreaves in defence unless we have some kind of crisis.

That's exactly what I mean. If those 2 have to play due to injuries there's no cover at RB, we've got 2 LB's 3 if you include Carragher so it did no harm to give Hargreaves a run at RB just in case:)
