That seemed to me why it was given, will have to rewatch on MoTD but I recall Dowd making a gesture as if to say Fabregas had his arms high but wasn't actually protecting his face. Had the ball been heading straight for his kisser then I don't think a pen would have been given, 9 out of 10 aren't in that instance anyway.

It has been a very poor performance. United lacked cutting edge in the first half, Wigan were letting us have the ball up until about 30 yards from goal when they would close us down, and they were doubling up on Park and Nani. Good tactics from Martinez, just undone by a lapse in concentration at the end.

Wigan could have scored too, N'Zogbia looks like the threat for them.
 
Not sure where the negativity is coming from tbh, we're struggling a little to make chances, but United have had 63% of the posession and more shots on target, Wigan are just throwing everything in front of us and not letting the forwards get a look in. They won't be able to keep that up though, they'll tire or make a mistake, like they did for Evra.

Without debating whether the league is poorer for it or not, is it a case of other sides improving or the top sides getting weaker?

If you looked at the squads of the top 4 from 2-3 years back and compare it to today, I think it's pretty clear that the standard of our 'top' clubs is far weaker.
 
I think Man Utd need to check their advertising hoarding messages, I don't think anyone will be joining Ole G S and the Utd reserves for a fun run anytime soon :D
 
Raging! Stupid GF Making me go to the stupid German Market in Brum this evening so i miss a Liverpool game for the first time in 7 years! :(
Even caved in over the united game .. sold my tickets in protest and still watched it on the TV .. Weak :(

Fergie is just destroying Macheda by continually starting him on his own, there is **** all he can do by himself against a defence. Remember when we started 2 strikers at the beginning of the season? Knew that wouldn't last, Fergie is just so damn negative these days. If there's an occasion to start 2 up front then it's at home to Wigan.
