I'm trying to work it out, pretty sure both are ridiculous statements.

If you include the first 11 Barca are great defensively, because they defend from the front. Their back 4 is amongst the weakest defensively in the top 4's in Europe. Puyol is insanely strong, a bulldog, reads the game brilliantly and is great all around, he's let down by his height/pace but that doesn't make him a bad defender, just a superb one considering he's got less physical ability than others.

PIque sucks, full stop, makes mistakes, bad at reading the game, not great at corners, not commanding, is big but doesn't use it. Alves can't defend, but adds going forwards and his pace gets him out of lots of bad situations, as does Puyol. Maxell/Abidal are both very competant, but not the worlds best defenders.

Utd are good, Evra is consistantly regarded as god like yet consistantly makes mistakes, Vidic is the same, he's a beast, but he's frequently caught in do or die situations, when strikers are on form he always looks one daft tackle from a red card, this seems to be more the daft high line they often play rather than actually being bad. Almost every game Utd decide to push up to the half way line Vidic is making tackles that should get him a red card. Rio is great when match fit, which isn't often, Rafael is infinately better going forward than defending, consistantly gets caught out, unlike Johnson he has massively better cb's to cover his ass, he's also much better at making cynical tackles than Johnson, when he's caught out he'll take a player, Johnson's too stupid to even do that well, he tried to foul German players twice when he was caught out and missed both times, both leading to goals.

Inter have a superb defence, flat out, a crap manager playing a daft high line, no tactics, incorrect midfield is the only thing having them conceding goals, they are improving dramatically since the new manager has come in. Some of the best defenders ever to grace the game and a rubbish attacking right back.

Does anyone remember when there were no quality left backs at all, now we have no quality right backs and loads of left backs?

Chelsea's defence is superb, they've had major injuries, rubbish form, loads of opponents attacking them and still barely concede goals. Ivanovich, Terry, Cole are three of the best in the world, a back line of Cole, Terry, Alex/new guy/Ivanovich is big, strong, and barely concede's.

City are fast becoming a very hard side to score against aswell, if required no one can match the pure size/strength that is a Lescott, Kompany, Toure, Richards back four.

Even worse when he tries to join the attack and makes those robotic and unimaginative passes that even Helen Keller could read and he gets whatever unfortunate winger stuck with him swamped. :(

Hope they start Fabio more too, looked one of our most impressive players in the FA Cup last week (not hard, I know) and is actually meant to be the more talented of the twins.
 
I hope O'Shea plays.

My housemate is a Man Utd fan, and Irish, so it's fun watching him try to defend all your dross Irish players like him and Gibson.

I'm Irish and everyone I know thinks those two aren't fit to polish Fergie's whiskey cabinet let alone play for United.
