**SPORE**

Ulth you know you said earlier about coming accross as sounding like a fanboy? Well to be honest you are... and it's a little sad. I like the game but it is in NO way half as impressive as was hyped or intended... and the video clearly portrays a game about 10x grander in scale, which MUSH more freeform gameplay.

Jesus... i've never understood people who sit there at their computer and defend something until death, even when the criticisms made are 100% valid and backed up by a ton of other players and some very accurate professional reviews.

Can we look forward to you going "ZOMG NO U ARE RONG" every time anyone makes a negative commont about this game? If so I can see it getting very old very fast.

I expected it to be ****, I'm pleasantly suprised that it's actually half decent.

Quite enjoying it as a little deviation from other, proper, games.

I still don't understand EA's £39.99 price tag for its digital download.... very strange.

I'm patient enough (just) to wait for my £26 copy to arrive in the post, but if they priced it reasonably I would have downloaded it !!

If you didn't notice, I've made my own criticisms about Spore. The difference is that my criticisms are actually problems with the game, not problems with the player who either rushed their way through the game, hyped themselves up too much before it came out, expected it to cater specifically to their demographic, or simply forgot that games do change drastically over three years of development.

Honestly; If I took the major complaints in this thread, I could apply them to any game. Period.

Wow I have just watched the 2005 spore video right to the end... I am completely stunned how vastly different the game was back then compared to what it is now. The 2005 version looked like a complete masterpiece... how did it end up so different? Pressure from EA to make it more "kid-friendly"? Either way it's hard to believe how it could have got watered down so much from the original vision... especially when it seemed like a good chunk of it was already done in the video.

Before anyone criticises the above... just watch the video all the way through to the end and THEN comment http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8372603330420559198

What a load of rubbish. Games don't always change drastically over 3 years, I didn't rush it, and I didn't expect it to cater to my specific demographic. I just expected it to have a considerable amount more substance than it actually does, considering how EA, every gaming site, and Will himself hyped it up as the next gen of RTS games. Keep it going though, i'm seeing a side of the usually sensible Ulth which I never thought i'd see... it's quite amusing actually.

Going to watch now (think I've seen it before anyway) but there's no way EA pressured them into make it "kid-friendly". Will Wright is allowed to do anything he wants. And if he wanted it like this there must be a reason for it.

*Goes off to watch*

That 2005 version of Spore looks awesome. Can't believe how crap the final product is, what the hell did they do...

13 minutes in so far, not noticed anything apart from the underwater bit. What should I be looking out for?

Keep watching, if you can't see the differences then there must be something wrong with you... because the entire structure of the game is differently implemented at every stage.

Not all of what I just wrote was specifically about you Richdog. My comment about people rushing it was directed at the people who say "whinge whinge it just rushes you from section to section, it doesn't let me explore and do what I want to do". Then how did I spend all day in one section yesterday, and almost 100% the zone? Surely if the game rushes you along, I couldn't have done this.

As for it being hyped up to be the next generation of RTS game, it's been blatantly obvious to anyone who knew the name 'Spore' that it's not an RTS. It's a "a multi-genre, massively single-player, online game" and that's coming directly from the mouth of Will Wright. Mock me all you like with thinly-veiled ad hominem about my character, but it sounds to me like you've not been paying attention.

As for your comment that "games don't always change drastically over three years". Well I didn't actually say the word 'always', did I? But you're fully welcome to name me a game or two that's delivered everything as promised and not changed since pre-release information.

Blood, combat, just little details that make it special compared to the **** they released.

As mr.Sly said, the game has combat. If it's blood/gore you want, I recommend avoiding PEGI 12+ games.

20 minutes now, just getting to space. Sure there's differences in the game from 2005 to the retail 2008 game. But nothing radical and nothing that makes the game excrement. Any changes will be because it either wasn't fun or didn't make sense in the final product like the underwater section.

He says numerous times in the video "this is a simple version of Sim City" or "this is a simple version of risk" when he's a different stages. So I don't know how people thought Supreme Commader was going to be in the game.

Will keep watching anyway see if anything radical happens.

RTS was just an off-the-cuff phrase... whatever you want to cal lit it's not a patch on what was promised. Read this review. Learn. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=78484

Anyhow we could tittle-tattle here all day Ulth... fact is i'm not the one coming accross as some over-protective odd fellow manically posting to attack almost anyone with criticism of this game, criticism based on very valid points that you seem to be perfectly willing to overlook. The game is fun for a short while, but ultimately a complete dissappointment, shallow and unfulfilling. I had great fun the first few times I made a race and ventured into the space-age, now I find its' replay value dwindling by the day, I can't even face looking at the cell, tribal and civ seciton now... they're awful.
