Square Enix DX12 Tech Demo running on Quad SLI TitanX

Send a thank you letter to consoles for that or to gamers trying to run the latest on weak hardware, then complain about the performance. :) Compare this video to how the TW 3 looks, then you'll see where the difference is.

About DX11 vs. DX 12, remember:

I already know those console peasants are holding us master race pc gamers back but don't forget that we already surpassed what DX 11 was supposed to be capable ages ago... anyway im arguing about something irrelevant. That was a engine demo... we don't play with the engine we play on actually released games which do not perform no where near the same as messing with graphical settings on the fly in engine.

Sorry for not seeming impressed but i lost that with the disappointment that came from watching too many of these demos then not seeing the same in the games. Only thing i liked was the actual polygon count significantly increased.

Looks good but I'm more interested in the CPU scaling side of things.

Having an i5 cope with better multi threading and being able to run multiple cards without becoming a bottleneck is what interests me.

That said there is no doubt that the visuals are amazing

Yup and that's because of the consoles or the publishers don't want the press to say that running at maxed settings you'll need 2-3 cards. Only Crysis did that back in 2007 and perhaps Star Citizen will do the same when launches. But keep in mind that the critique comes not because the games require fast hardware while actually showing the results in a suitable manner, but because of the lack of proper using of what you throw at it. Yes Arma and Day Z, I'm looking at you!

Probably a prime example of your words would be Alan Wake. Open world, DX10, design with quad processors in mind, only to end up DX9, incredibly linear and for a while, console only. :)

If they are using 4 TXs it needs 4 TXs simple.

Otherwise why not just show us the demo on a 2 card system.

It needs 4 TitanXs.:)

I will say while the ps4 footage looks pretty decent, as in the world and environment and actual gameplay, the actual quality of the gfx for it are nothing that special.

However that's ps4, which means it's probably equivalent to dx11, now if the xbone and PC have dx12 giving the option to turn it up to 11 so to speak then it's a whole different ball game.

I say wait to see a PC release that runs on dx12 then make judgements

The ps4 and Xbox one already use a to the metal Api so i doubt dx12 will suddenly make the xbox one that much faster than it already is. The Ps4 has the superior hardware so in theory it should always be the best Console. The Pc should benefit more from Dx12 if the game companies use it well.

This would have been impressive if it was a single card but for some reason Nvidia/SE thought it was a good idea to show it in QuadSLI..wth!
Even The Order on PS4 has cut scenes that are comparable to this.

Did they think everyone was going to rush out a buy 4xTitanX's?

You can play a pre-rendered cutscene on a phone (hint: You can play visually stunning movies on a phone!)

The key is rendering it in real time. In this the demo is super impressive.

However, as several others have said, I've seen so many impressive tech demos with no big jump in game graphics really following on that I'm more than slightly skeptical. Heck, the 'real time' demo coulda been pre-rendered for all we know, though I'd hope not!

I think when we see these demos we need to change the way we think about them.

If a demo can not run on the fastest single GPU available @1080p then it is rather pointless as it proves nothing.

The vast majority of people game on single GPUs so that is where demos need to be aimed.:)

I dissagree totally with this statement Kaap, its like saying why make F1 cars when most drive a family hatchback etc, why?? Because technology needs to be pushed to extremes and eventually the tech filters down to everyday models at a more affordable price. Imo i think these demo's are great and gives us something to look forward too although most of the time PC owners just end up with a crappy console port.

Im still waiting for Crysis 1 to look as good as it did on the videos we saw before it came out.

Not even modifications to the game made it look quarter as good as some of them tech demos of it.

The difference here is that demo is going to be part of an upcoming game using DX12.:)

Crysis 3 is still up there if not the best looking game I've seen to date on the pc !

People seem to be missing the point of it, it's a tech demo. They're not expecting people to rush out and buy 4 Titan X. They're not trying to show off DX12 performance improvements - what they're showing is physically impossible on DX11.

Pointless tech demo! Lets see it in game in 12-24 months time so we can all get excited.

I think games like this are 10-15 years away.

They were saying that 10-15 years ago as well.

Which initial videos? I thought it actually looked better.

This video showing dx9 vs dx10. even now with todays hardware + all the mods, I don't think it looks as good as this video shows, there was another video somewhere but I cant seem to find it, it showed what crisis DX10 would look like, and its a lot better than it actually is.
