Sri Lanka v England Test Series *** Spoilers ***

Changes needed to this batting. What should those changes be?

I'd be glad to see the back of Strauss and KP but there just aren't many replacements.

Problem with getting rid of Strauss is who do you put as captain? An obvious suggestion would be Cook however there is a chance that it will effect his batting just as it has done to previous England captains and we need him scoring runs.

I've been saying it for a while, there are plenty of good batsmen in the county game, but none of them get a chance. Taylor should be in the team as he is a fantastic talent and still young.

Im not sure dumping a load in young county players en-masse in a high pressure situation is the right way to go about it :p

Really we should have been bedding a few in during the period post ashes.
I guess we tried with Morgan? but it was never going to work imo.

I think they need to look to the future and just get Cook up there as captain. Trott could possibly open with Cook and then stick Bell at 3 perhaps. I'm not sure who else you would stick at 5 but there really does need to be a shake up. It gives the message that it's a case of jobs for the boys and you don't get booted from the team no matter how bad you do. The exception being Morgan of course.

Bell isn't really in any better form then Strauss though :p is one 50 in god knows how many innings any better then consistent 25's ?

I mean, if we'r going to remove people for not performing we'r left with the following:

Cook, Trott, x , x , x , x , Prior, Broad, Swann, Anderson , Monty (Swap Broad -> Bresnan if Broads injury persists, and Monty for Tremlett? any seamer really once we leave SC conditions )

Thats a lot of holes to fill! Even if we keep Patel in, move Prior down one we still need to find 3 people worth playing. Not a chance.

LOL oh dear England losing to SL??...first it was the Paks who took them apart and now the SL's have joined in on the act.

Saying that 340 was always going to be a difficult total to chase down but it was do-able if England learned how to bat properly:p.

Hopefully Eng can win the 2nd test but it will be difficult...pretty sure they will lose their number 1 Test status too if they lose this series to SL.

Don't understand why that deserves a "LOL", Sri Lanka are a very good team with some seriously good players...

Surprised that nobody is calling for Cook's head yet, in the 4 tests we have played this year(3 against Pakistan and 1 against Sri Lanka) he has had 5 scores of under 10, he has scored one 50 in that time and hasn't scored a century, averaging 21.6..

Strauss on the other hand has 1 score of under 10 in that period but only one 50 and no centuries, averaging 25.37.

Personally I would prefer a batsmen who is going to score a regular 26/27 at the top of the order as opposed to someone who is going to get out for very little in 5 games than hit a large score being going back to the low scores..

I never said we should dump loads of county players in the team, but we should be looking to start bringing the youth through as Strauss, Trott, Pietersen and Prior are all in their 30's now(And Bell will join them in a week or two) and they won't be around forever. We don't want to have the problems Australia faced a few years ago and have most of our test players retire within a year or two of each other forcing them to completely remodel the team.

Morgan got his chance in the shorter form of the game for England and did very well(Because his game is suited to that) so they gave him a spot in the test team even though there were players outperforming him in the counties who were more suited to the test matches.. They hoped he would adapt to test matches, he didn't.

He starts all his cricket posts with LOL ;)

I've never really rated Cook. I used to call him crap, and I was forced to eat my words when he raped Australia down under. But now I'm feeling better about myself :p

So this is looking rather slow at the moment with England needing wickets. Why on earth did they drop their best spinner? O yes as they can't bat and the lack of confidence in their batting shows by these selections.

I don't think he is our best spinner. Yes he spins it more than Swann but Swann is more consistent and bowls a better line therefore is able to get more wickets.

Seems odd that Patel is in as the second spinner instead of Panesar though.. As Panesar is a better bowler and got more runs in the last match..

Finally we get a breakthrough, hopefully we can start to push on and get them out for a low-ish score.
