@icehot666: fair play, thanks for replying. I don't think those tasks would put me off personally, but I appreciate what you're saying and feeling about it.

@Chronictank: that's what I'm doing, I don't want to uninstall games when I'm done with them really, so I'll just park them off in cold storage (hdd) via a junction/link for the stuff I may then only fire up once or twice a year after they've been done and dusted. In terms of my usage, that's where most of my space ends up become dead storage.

Did you secure erase the disk before using it? Anything look particularly trippy in the SMART data?

No did not secure erase it. And it says I have writen 75GB when all i have done is install windows 7 ultimate on it and get the updates. :/

That does not look good.

Someone on another forum had same issue as you. His SSD lasted less than 2 days - it just went kaput.

You better hope it's just a misreding from the program or you'll need an RMA.

I just did another reading and now it says 41% Not looking good at all for me =/

Only got windows 7 on it so now worries really. This will be my 2nd RMA this week :/ boy oh boy seems I am just getting the **** end of all the deals. Both things I bought on EPIC Tuesday need RMA. LoL such is life i suppose.

When you get your replacement, along with other things you've done to get it installed and running, if you haven't done these, add them to your list:

- run Windows Experience Index soon after install of OS and chipset drivers
- confirm defrag scheduled task is excluding your SSD

That's just to make sure Windows knows it needs to behave itself and configure its various disk/memory services properly. The 2nd item is just to confirm the 1st did what it should, you shouldn't need to actually alter anything.

Nothing else should chew up a disk (with relatively nothing on it) that quickly, and even that sounds excessive.

Mine has bit the dust. LAstest about 24hours. I went to store and came back. The wife said I swear i didn't do anything the screen just flashed blue and the computer restarted. Low and behold it has booted up from my old hard drive as well. Sorry OCUK i must do another RMA :/

Definitely unlucky gits.

Most SSDs will last way longer than any HDDs plus even when they run out of write cycles, you can still read from them.

No mechanical moving parts means that they're much more reliable if you want to keep your data safe.

Ok I think everyone needs to do this at some point.... It demonstrates how easy it is to get used to something... As I said earlier in this thread I was convinced my raptor was pretty much the same speed as my ssd, and I may move back to it - so this afternoon I took out my SSD, and popped in my raptor, it still had my install of Windows on it from 5 months ago...

Just doing that I realised how slow mechanical drives are! The difference was incredible, I was feeling really frustrated and impatient with the machine, and the noise wasn't much better either... I have now just again booted backup to the SSD, and it's amazing how it suddenly feels way quicker than it did this morning!! I can't believe how easy it is to get so used to something that you completely forget how it used to be. A pleasant eye opener!
