I have just brought my first ssd, and im having nothing but issues installing it.

i intended to clone my data from my old hdd to this ssd but i had nothing but issues with the software failing to start and what not that i decided to do a fresh install.

Windows 7 Pro 64x installation is detecting the ssd, however it says "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks."

I have the OCZ Agility 3 240GB and it has the sandforce controller 2281 if this helps. Need help asap :(

Thanks

Cloning from a standard HD to SSD never works. It is always best to do a fresh install.

THe drive is best to have a full erase to get rid of the previous clone.

Mmmm. Still dont know why that would have caused your problem unless the drive is faulty?
And to the OP:

Here is this link:

It seems that SSDs have to be prepared in UEFI Bios for a Windows install differently as you should in "Normal" ones..

Something about differences between "normal" Bios and "UEFI" Bios regarding the MBR or GPT.. I don't get it so well, but that's what seemed to happens with the drive.. :)

Best regards.. ;)

Also if you backed up the HDD with windows' back up system, then it would never work.

Windows backs up the 'whole' drive, regardless of how much of it is full. So if you back up a 500GB hard drive, you can only clone it onto a 500GB or bigger hard drive. This obviously happens all the time with SSD's as 99% of people have a bigger HDD than SSD.
