Hi guys, I have a Kingston V-Series SSDNow 128gb SNV425-S2BN and i've installed Steam and 2 games on it as well as Windows 7. I've got STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl on as well as COD4 but while playing i'm getting micro-stutter every now and again. It's not that bad but it gets irritating when i'm really getting into a game. I've tried both the Marvel SATA and the AMD one, both of them do the same thing. This is also a clean install of Windows 7 on a ASRock 890FX Deluxe3.

Any help to sort this out would be appreciated, thanks.

I've got an Crucial M4 64GB which I bought but it's just way too small hence I bought a bigger but slower drive as I was skint. Can't afford to start selling and re-buying a 128GB M4 now. :(

Is there any fixes or tweaks I can do to make it run smoother or anything? Or will I have to put up with this.

Have you checked if there any firmware updates for it ?

As this stuttering meant to of been fixed by firmware

The first thing we notice is Toshiba parts, both the controller and memory chips. However, the most important thing to note here is that the controller really isn't a Toshiba part at heart; it's a JMicron. Yes, the JMicron that has been noted for severe stuttering issues in other SSD drives. Now this is where things get really interesting.

We've been informed by Kingston that their engineers have been working very closely with both JMicron and Toshiba extensively over the last six months to correct that stuttering problem. The solution is Kingston is now using an "exclusive" or "proprietary" firmware that was developed specifically for the V-Series drive that has resulted in a JMicron controller that apparently solves the lag or stuttering problem entirely, making the V-Series significantly better than previous JMF602B-based SSDs.

It seems this has been accomplished by the exclusive firmware sacrificing some sequential bandwidth (which isn't the culprit of stuttering) down to 100MB/s read in order to attain better random IOPS (which is the culprit of stuttering). Further, the Toshiba-rebadged JMicron controller contains 64KB cache rather than the former 16KB, which should also help eliminate the saturation problems that attributed to the lag/stutter problems.

Sorry guys but it's fine now? The stuttering just seems to occur for the 1st 30 or so seconds while i'm in game and then it's completely gone. Weird thing is it only does it on COD4, STALKER has just very minor stutter like 2-3 times and that's it and World Of Warcraft has none what so ever, i'm confused.

have I configured something wrong here? I'm getting the advertised read/write speeds so I think I must have left a Windows feature on that shouldn't be on when using an SSD? I've not defragged it so i've no idea what's going on.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R is very well known for stuttering issues, this is not related to your SSD, but you need to make sure you have the latest game patch and drivers for your GFX card too. I used to get stuttering but it stopped with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R Complete mod which just patches up and improves the games graphics.

Also, have you got the latest chipset drivers?

I get the same thing now with Modern Warfare 3 with my Corsair F60. Didn't think about the possibility it could be the ssd. Didn't get it first of all though it just a recent thing.

It seems to just do it now in the 1st 20-30 seconds or so of games. I've read that I can turn caching off to improve performance but I have no idea how.
