Hello I'm currently using a intel ssd 320 120gb as a boot drive and want to get a larger capacity drive what are the best options reliability a factor and needs to be backward compatible to sata 2 due to motherboard old type although I think most will be ,so 3gbs as opposed to 6gbs ,I think?

My options narrowed to Samsung pro 840,crucial m4 ,intel 520

I'm tempted to go intel as my drive at moment has been reliable more so than a previous ocz I owned ,although probably use same controllers ,

Anyway price is dropping so not so difficult to get decent size drive so a question of best deals

Also would like to use my existing 120gb for my video editing will this work well

Good ,are the Samsung non pro ssd reliable ,if so I might jump for one might even be able to get a larger capacity.

ok just purchased my Samsung 840 under 150 delivered ,now the problem of making it my ops drive which I haven't a clue how to do this .can it be cloned I think I read that Samsung comes with the software for this ? im interested in magician as well ,
looks like Samsung are getting good at making electronics s4 phones large lcd panels etc
now my computer will be Korean like my car ,

Ok ,what connectors am I looking for to plug the ssd drive into will this be the same type as my existing drives ,and does the drive come with connectors ,this is obviously going to be different from just swapping out a graphics card on mob.

Ok problem my x58a mob only has 2 sata 2 sockets .and both are being used but spec says there are ten with some using south bridge one of them is the marvel socket for 6gb s but if I remember correctly I was told to avoid this .

yes I have three existing drives 1 ssd drive intel 1 hdd drive wd green and 1 optical drive lg blue ray recorder ,so the Samsung makes four ,might have to sell the intel on ebay if cant configure into system as you say might be best to put either the ssd drive intel on sata 3 or the optical drive ,and have the Samsung run on sata 2 ports as my operating/main drive .

Ok brilliant ,I got a feeling ill be back asking for some more tips and advice ,I think one of them is leaving your machine earthed whilst working on it ,obviously turned off with the plug ,plugged in and me earthed also

has anyone tried the Samsung data migration software looks kind of straight forward so all I have to do is clone my intel c drive to the Samsung which will then become my c ops drive and swap them out ,does it remove all data from the intel existing drive?

Ok is it only transferable via USB ,
Also on another note how do you fix your ssd in your PC does it have any thing in the box to fit into tray bay etc

Hopefully will arrive tomorrow I swapped the 840 for the pro 840 5year warranty appealed to me hope the above still applies and will try and fit the weekend

Well I went for pro not just for speed but reliability 5 yrs guarantee ,and will have to wait for evo ,maybe in year or two ill get a larger version ?

are these the correct cables needed for the installation went for two sata into one molex in case of shortage of connectors on my psu (Christmas light cable) .

and I assume sata 2 due to mob configuration

The OCuK Value SATA-II 90CM Connection cable

Akasa 4pin Molex to 2 x SATA power Adapter (AK-CBPW01-30

Hello only me ,I've installed me new samsung 840 240gb pro and started me computer up and boot drive gone walkies ,so I've unplugged the samsung ssd drive to get windows to boot up do I now plug it in ,or are there different procedures to follow also when using samsung data migration what will take place will I end up with two drives mirroring each other.and how do I go about making the new samsung ssd the primary drive .

ok where in bios do I find this option also if I remember I have to make sure ssd set correctly ahci mode ,I haven't been in my bios for a while is still one of f numbers on boot up

Ok I've cloned I now have a system reserved f my old ssd boot drive is now disc G and the samsung drive is disc c back up has now become disc m ,what is system reserved ?,and can I now format my intel drive that used to be disc c

Well not really I am now going through the cloning procedure again with my other drives disconnected I don't want system reserved to appear as a partition /separate /f this should be part of the operating system ,and not appear on its own I think I won't delete well probably wouldn't be allowed anyway

As soon as I plug my ssd drive the intel one that I just want to use as storage it creates a system reserved how can I format the drive so to free up space the intel tool won't allow it to format thinks it is my boot drive
