SSD Price increases

£100 i doubt it the way things are going, glad i got my ssd last year also. Would be nice if they do drop any where near that amount come the christmas period

I bought mine after a lot of research about the prices..

It seem prices will not drop that much in the next 12 months..

I would like to be proved wrong as even with the few teething probs with mine I want another so I can raid them..

:)

The price of things has a habit of changing at sometimes the most unexpected moment. When for example everyone thinks the price will go higher or the price will remain the same and not drop, drop it probably will.

I think by Christmas there will be a big drop in prices, although I doubt a 500gb SSD will be £100 though. I can however see the 160GB units being half the price they are now. It's not new technology anymore, the prices are not justifiable compared to normal HDD (the demand should be dropping if it wasn't for the new technology and 'must have' mindset of the enthsuiasts). Actually, the price can be justified at the moment but the demand is there from enthusiasts only at the current prices.

I also think the £ could do well against the dollar over the coming year, bringing prices down.

All IMO of course

We had a big discussion about it on the crucial thread around October last year when they first got hiked. A lot of the NAND flash manufacturers shut down their production lines due to decrease in demand then they got caught short when Apple ordered 100m 8g chips (cannot remember the real no I am afraid) as has been said its simple supply & demand. There are still limited quantities from manufacturers so prices increase accordingly

Ive got 3!!!!!!

All 60Gb Samsung drives, my first one cost £99, the other 2 are slightly quicker drives and they're what ive got in RAID, they were £150 each about 8 months ago and are still that price now

Prices keep going up ....

Wages remain the same, or decreasing ....

And people are losing their jobs, several businesses going bankrupt.

Not nice :(

I got my crucial SSD for about £205 the day after it was 230 then a lil wile later it was 260+ so i was lucky i didnt waitto get my HD :). I knew it would b months before i got my pc but had to get a good SSD.

The bloke at the ocuk shop said it is because apple just bought 1/4 of the world's current supply of SSD chips, pushing the price up.
They also said that the ocuk manager (whether they mean Spie or not I don't know) thinks that a 500gb SSD will be £100 at xmas.

No chance, best you can realistically expect is that £100 will buy you a 64GB SSD this Xmas.

Yes it would but manufacturing has to catch up to meet demand before that can happen.

I don't think there are enough flash making facilities in the world to keep up with the demand at the moment, and ontop of that apple are taking a big share which is keeping prices up.

Good time to be a flash maker.
Bad time to be a flash buyer.

I paid £104 for a 64GB SSD (Kingston Value) 10 months ago, and similar SSD is still fetching this.

All my computer stuff purchased in last year is more expensive. I purchased a i5 / Gigabyte board / 8GB Corsair memory / Artic cooler - the week i5 came out £400, today same is £500.

Also 10 months ago I purchased a GTX 260 216 Core £99 new (from OCUK)!

My monitors are more money also now. I think it's going to be a while before I upgrade, and may enter a period of only buying if somthing breaks down.

It's down to a weak pound, weak pound is also why fuel so expensive.
