recently built a new PC and installed win7, used it for ~2weekswithout a problem, havent stress tested or anything

couple of days i go i was using it, went downstairs for a cuppa came back up and had a black screen with boot manager missing. wasnt too bothered seen this before so decided to reinstall win7

just reinstalled it and was putting drivers, programs and updates on when i had an error message come up when i tried restarting

anyway i restated and it came up again boot manager missing [didnt take notice of the error message as skype error came up so assumed it was that]

i just put the win7 disk back in and the SSD is not there at all, not in the bios either

anyone have ideas on how to fix this or is this SSD broke

its a Corsair Force GT 120GB

A lot of people seem to be having this sort of problem with SSD's, which is a little worrying as i've just upgraded to a 128GB crucial M4. No problems here yet, but i've only had it installed a couple of days. Have you tried it on a different SATA port? I had issues installing mine until I put it on SATA port 1. Hope you sort it.

I have owned 3 x Vertex 3's, 2 x Agility 3's, 1 x Mushkin Chronos Dlx, and 2 x Crucial M4's.

I would get the Crucial M4 over any sandforce controlled SSD any day of the week.

By far the best SSD on the market at the moment.

Thanks for the info xtremedetailz :) It does sound like the M4 is one of the more reliable SSD's. The Sandforce drives sound a little quicker but can let themselves down with various issues it seems.

If you like horror stories, take a look at this: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2011/05/the-hot-crazy-solid-state-drive-scale.html

* Super Talent 32 GB SSD, failed after 137 days
* OCZ Vertex 1 250 GB SSD, failed after 512 days
* G.Skill 64 GB SSD, failed after 251 days
* G.Skill 64 GB SSD, failed after 276 days
* Crucial 64 GB SSD, failed after 350 days
* OCZ Agility 60 GB SSD, failed after 72 days
* Intel X25-M 80 GB SSD, failed after 15 days
* Intel X25-M 80 GB SSD, failed after 206 days

Makes you wanna think twice before buying into the SSD craze, huh? ;)

Can I ask what chipset and Sata controller you are using? I was using an x58 chipset and plugging it into the intel irch10 or Marvell Sata 3 and was getting the same problems with agility 3's.. It's not till I upgraded to the sandy bridge ASUS p8z68 v pro is when the stability issue was fixed .. Had no problems what so ever since.. It could be a x58 & ssd problem?

Current gen Intel SSDs are using Marvell controllers same as Crucial, hence why older gen Intel SSDs are more reliable as they used Intel's own controller. I'm using the 64gb M4 and so far after 3 months it's been perfect :D. Can't go wrong with it, go with the 128gb and it should be enough for you, or if you have the cash and a lot of games, go for the 256gb.

was going to go for the m4 256gb as i do computer forensics so will have a lot of programs with that and its a gaming machine

Fair enough, then the 256gb sounds perfect for you. Just make sure you update the firmwire to 0009 if it's on an older firmwire and you'll get a 20% speed boost :).

was going to update the FW straight away so long as it is an older version

*EDIT*

is a raid pack worth it, have the OS/programs stored on one and games on another if u take them out of raid mode? so if one goes u dont lose everything?
