ive been wanting to build a new PC however im not too sure about getting an SSD or a HDD, ive heard that ssd's start up really quick however when shutting the pc down, it takes a while, is this true?

Not at all, infact as it's easily relatable it's one of the things ppl notice. A few mates and my brother noticed how quick the pc was to shutdown, and actually promted him to use my sytem for a bit and eventally get one for his laptop.

Well that depensds on what sort of pc usage you have. The difference certainly isn't game changing if you're not in need of large sequential transfers or the fast response time for work/hobby reasons such as image/video editing. But it is convenient and you do appreciate the general system responsiveness (as vishiro says as long as it's a decent one) and find yourself slightly impatiant with hdd systems comparative drowsiness. If however you're more in need of storage of gpu/cpu upgrade the money is probably better diverted there first.

Samsung 830/840, crucial m4 (not the v4- a really poor drive), intel (not familiar with their models to comment) are popular recommendations due to their better than average reliability (although the 840 is relativly new so no real track record yet).

im thinking abut getting a 120gb ssd and a 2tb hdd, ill use ssd for windows and a couple of games because some have told me that there is literrally no loading time for games on ssd, is this true ?

Not true, I'm afraid. But, load times are massively reduced. It's not subtle - you will notice a big difference.

Go for at least two native Sata 6GB/s ports on your mainboard, don't know about latest amd mainboards other than crosshair formula of old had 6 native Sata 6GB/s ports, very nice, but some high end intel motherboards only have two native intel Sata 6GB/s ports, but, very fast, smooth, quiet. I was quite impressed by sata 3GB/s on old mainboard, even more impressed by sata 6GB/s.

Forgot to add i noticed on a socket 1156 motherboard with sata 2 my m4 ssd was much more resposive than any mechanical hard drive i have used in the past, but traditional hard drives are still good for what they are plus the benefits of much more storage for a decent price. On the socket 1156 i noticed the start ups, shut downs and restarts were fast but not miles faster than a mechanical hdd. On my socket 2011 with two native intel sata 3 ports the experience is about the same except the restart is very quick but i did notice on a few occasions that the shut down was slower, maybe it's my system overall?, just something i noticed. I might give the intel rapid storage drivers a go, i was just using windows 7 x64 standard ahci and drivers.

i really want to get a 500gb SSD but i cant beleive they cost so much
Well that is the problem still unfortunately if you really need to install massive amounts of data like your game collection and maybe movies. I'm quite fortunate i don't really need to have all my games on my ssd's, i install what i want at the time and get rid when i have finished, i abuse my crucial ssd's and they still work great. Some motherboards allow what's called caching, you could buy small storage ssd and buy large traditional hdd, maybe do some research on it?. I can't tell real world difference with movies or games on ssd or traditional hard drives if i'm honest, well, none that makes me go "wow" :D

They certainly do make a big difference, I've been very impressed with mine (samsung 830) Everything seems so much quicker

I've had my m4 120gb ssd sitting at 10gb free for a while now and haven't noticed any slow down. I'm sure i would if i benchmarked but that would be pointless.

I bought my 128GB M4 in January 2012 thinking that would be more than enough. Fast forward to now, and I have 40GB free. I have my OS and all my apps and CoD4 MW on it and that's it. I have reduced my page-file, cleaned out temp folders and such and all the other usual house keeping stuff. I'm a little concerned now where I might be this time next year  . I'm blaming Windows Updates ! lol . Damn you Microsoft !
