SSD showing as IDE

Have you tried different sata and power connectors?

Just switched connectors now, so I'll see how it behaves......if theres no change then tomorrow it wont boot :o

The 'plug and play'setting in bios, can somebody clarify the exact setting for me, so I can double check that as well? Legacy is enabled.
 
Changed ports and things are the same, if not worse!

PC hangs and crashes, displaying message NTLDR is missing (yet it booted into windows ok?), restart and still the same message. Have to reset the bios and load optimised defaults to get it to reboot.

Then constant hangs and crashes, HDD activity light on solid for 5-10 minutes at a time.

Really weird problem this. What should I try next please?

Does it look like a HDD problem, mobo problem, bios problem, or a simple driver problem? I'm stumped and running out of ideas.

I played Modern Warfare 2 for a couple of hours solid last night without a hitch and it was fine. Gaming does not seem an issue, provided I can get the PC running long enough to load it.

Really tempted to RMA the SSD now tbh.
 
Have you got access to another computer, family, friends..., that you could try it in and test?

It wouldn't affect their setup in any way - you would just connect it up and install an OS and see if it operates correctly or not.

If it were to simulate the same problems in a different rig at least you could rma with relative confidence...

Not really, and I will struggle to find the time tbh with work and things.

I am still trying everything I can think of one by one, maybe I will stumble across the problem soon.

Would it be worth updating the mobo bios to the latest beta, not tried that yet?

It couldn't do any harm - and if it were to you just flash back...

But, you have a very common MB (in a good way) and if their were incompatibility issues with the Corsair SSD and the UD5 i would have thought that you would have got a lot more hits through Google.

Still, computers are strange beasts and if they see an opportunity to cause confusion and mayhem they will - so i would try the BIOS flash.

EDIT: Have you tried a separate thread in the HDD forum? (It may be an idea to ask that your thread be moved to there as there are some very clued up HDD guys who may not look in here? Although - it's looking like you have almost completed your journey with this SSD... :/)

Getting all sorts of bsods and boot failures again.

The last 2 were:

Stop: C0000135 The program couldn't start because %hs is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem - that was when it booted into windows and I tried to start Firefox.


Stop: C000021a {Fatal System Error} The session manager core session failure . System process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down. - this was as it was trying to boot into windows but failed.


Do these errors help at all?
 
Managed to get the startup repair to complete and it states that the registry on the windows installation (SSD) is corrupt.

It says it rolled it back successfully but on reboot simply goes straight back to repair the installation.

Given all the above info, is it likely that the SSD needs changing or is it more likely something else?

Getting frustrated with it now :o

Father-ted do you have any issues with normal HDD's ? It sounds like a dodgy SSD.

I'm having similar issues with a normal HDD, AHCI and IDE modes in BIOS, It takes it's pick on different nights which mode to boot from!!

Installed in IDE mode yet, Sometimes it's not recognized in that mode. Sometimes it will BSOD in AHCI and not even be recognized in IDE.
 
I have RMA'd the SSD drive.

I have installed W7 64bit onto a Samsung F3 and no problems at all so far (crosses fingers).

I wish I had RMA'd the darn thing over a week ago when I first suspected it.....endless hours of tring to find the problem......but thats computers for ya :eek:
 
Turned PC on this moning after been off all night, quickly rebooted itself after a few seconds, then straight into W7 (seems a lot of people experience cold reboots with this mobo).

Looks definitely like it was a problematic SSD as not missed a beat since I re-installed yesterday. No missing NTLDR or other hardware/driver problems.

Xonar driver seems a bit better as well, though still not fully-functioning with 5.1 and a few options in the control panel.

Happy days hopefully, just waiting for Oc to return me a replacement SSD :D
 
Everything working fine since I RMA'd the SSD.

Overclockers have started testing the returned drive, but say that no faults reported so far.

Surely this is a faulty SSD, but where do I stand / what do I do if O/C say that the drive tests fine?

Can I ask for a different SSD or ask for a refund and order another? The guy at O/C says that I will have to pay a charge if the drive tests fine, and states that it could be an incompatability with the components I have ordered.

?? Where do I stand?
 
How long ago did you buy it? 7 days for distance selling regulations. You could ask for an exchange out of goodwill. If you don't ask you don't get at the end of the day.
 
Too late they have shipped it back to me today:

Here is the technicians Test Report:

"Drive working fine for 2-3 days, passes all tests, installs windows fine and no corruptions."


Point of note, when my wife contacted o/c yesterday they said that they had just put it on test; the note above says that they have tested it for 2-3 days.......which is obviously incorrect.

They stated that it was probably an incompatability issue?
 
I am RMA'ing the drive back to Crucial. Spoken to them on the phone and they say it sounds like a failing SSD.

I have tried again to reinstall but the drive keeps disappearing in bios, and is now not recognised when I boot into W7 also.

If Crucial confirm a faulty drive, will I get my RMA charges refunded from Overclockers? Its cost me upwards of £20 already

Yes, several times.

At first it would start to install W7, then hang with the harddrive light on while expanding windows......I left it for over an hour like that then decided to turn it off.

Now it has disappeared in bios all together. I have reset bios and still the same.

Tried everything I can think of without any joy. When I first got this drive it installed W7 64bit in around 20 minutes or less without a hitch. Worked fine for a week or so, then suddenly all this trouble. I've not changed anything and the system is not overclocked.

When I first started having trouble with it, the main problem was with cold boots, then things got gradually worse from there.
