STALKER: Call of Pripyat

***SPOILERS***

Wheeeyyy! Finally managed to get to Pripyat! I didn't need a5th person after all, myself, Zulu, Sokolov and Vano went. All I needed to do to unlock the 'going to Pripyat' bit was to buy a compatible suit for the underground. Bought one after snooping around for some artifacts as I was a wee bit short on cash, got it off Hawaii at Yanov for 37,500 RU.

Loved the underground bit, reminded me a lot of SoC when you 1st got to the Underground, scary stuff I tell thee!

Deffo, can get it for only £15 (promo price) if you have either Clear Sky, or the original SOC through Steam. :)

I went up to this farm and noticed this stalker walking about like he needed a crap :D, then the music kicked in and he opened fire on me, turns out he was a zombie, and then loads of them appeared, was great, thought i was playing Resi Evil :DXonar, not sure why you can't get the Dx10.1 option though.

I've got that combat music or whatever it's called off. Find it irritating more than atmospheric imo.

Really enjoying it so far, i've not had one crash or bug of any kind. *touch wood*

Having some problems with graphics settings in this game, just wondering if anyone else has the same.

Firstly AA/AF are not working right. Forcing through CCC does nothing either. Basically if i put the AF slider all the way up, there is a *TINY* difference, but it still looks almost like there is really no AF going on at all. Same deal with AA except this time there really is nothing happening, not even a marginal improvement. Strangest thing is, both of these options seem to negatively effect my framerate, so i really don't know what's going on.

I read on a forum somewhere that since this engine uses deferred lighting, you can not actually get AA/AF working right anyway, but i have seen some screenshots where both appear to be working fine.

Another thing which is confusing me, in the graphics options, the 3 highest settings in the 'basic' panel are as follows:

Full Dynamic Lighting
Full Dynamic Lighting (Enhanced)
Full Dynamic Lighting (Enhanced DX10)

Now is that how it's supposed to be? I thought there would be a DX10.1 option seeing as that existed in CS and also the benchmark tool for COP. Obviously i expected the DX11 to be absent, since i have an HD4850, but perhaps something is screwed up here?

I have tried all the different DX settings that are available, also tried 9.12 and 10.1 cats with no luck at all, AA/AF is always broken, and no DX10.1 option :(

TIA if anyone has any help/advice.

Apparently it's an issue with ATi card at the moment. Read it somewhere in this thread and on Google but can't find it.

Oh that's a bummer, i did some googling also but there is so much discussion about the benchmark it's hard to find anything useful about the game!

Strange that these issues exist seeing as AMD have obviously spent money on their own 'TWIMTBP' sponsorship of the game. Oh well, maybe a fix in 10.2 will come.

Just be doing the Stingray missions and that's it. To my knowledge i've attempted no side missions at all. When I went to find out about Stingray #4 in that warehouse thing, I picked up some papers and then can't remember what happened after that. I had to speak to Zulu about gathering a squad to go to Pripyat with and he basically set me on my way, after no less that 6 mouthful's of vintage Vodka lol.

Go do the toher quests you're missing out on loads of good equipment and detectors not to mention upgrades+ artefacts :p

And all the set peices in missions such as creeping through a lair of 20+ sleeping bloodsuckers :D

Does the retail packaged version have to be registered via steam? Or can it be resold at a later time?

I like to flog games to fund new ones but I see if I buy on steam it's only £14.99 which of course can't later be sold. I picked up the first Stalker installment on Steam when it was cheapo a while ago

Using the AtmosFear mod:

Just finished first play though.

While the first two areas were very good Pripyat felt rushed and very empty, bit sad we didn't get to go look at the sarcophagus and see the effects of the first game on there.

Was hoping pripyat would contain some great anomalous areas like that cave with the moving fire anomalies but didn't really find any but didn't explore too much tbh. :(

Hopefully on this play through the rich achievement wont bug so i can actually buy something better than an Ak and have custom scopes :p

As well as having a load of quests i missed out on by selling pdas off too soon.

Woo finished CS so onto Pripyat :)

***Minor CS Spoilers Coming***

CS was alright actually considering it is the worst out of the three, the first area (the swamp) is great and corden & garbage are pretty good as well. The other areas before the final ones seemed a bit empty, with only one or two decent side missions (though I was going fairly quick at that point) and most of the main missions being fairly bland, but it picked up at the end with the last two/three areas being just pure fairly linear action, though the finale at the NPP was rubbish, much worse than SoCs. On the plus side equipment and artifacts where handled alto better than SoC, though the fixed artifacts spawns kinda ruined the exploration.

So in terms of the story/atmosphere CS was for the most part worse (not bad just average) than SoC though it did have its moments, such as assaulting Limansk (sp) and the construction site, in my case at night in a thunder storm with flares going up now and again was awesome and again creeping through the 'haunted' bloodsucker village was just as fairly nerve wracking for me. For the 'living zone' and 'faction war' features it was pretty poor aside from the swamp area but again the day night transitions, weather etc and the areas (aside from content in them) were great.

Got to try and get into playing CoP now

If you don't get too distracted you can probably get through both of them in less than 8 hours each.

If you only play one though make sure its the Shadow of Chernobyl (the first one) as CS was a prequel and by not playing it you'll miss only a little.

In COP how do you get to the other helicopter crash sites? (Jupiter area). Seems I am stuck in that vast area that you start off in and am just wondering about completing side quests.

Ta.

Edit : Just got to Yanov station so perhaps I'll be okay now.

Getting around 60fps out and about but 20-24 fps in the first camp (the boat). Pain in the ass dunno if im gonna play this till i get a new graphics card. 99% sure its because of the amount of stalkers that are there (30 there for me at the moment). running above the recommended specs also .

Try turning off SSAO, i find it's actually impossible to tell if it's on or off most of the time, but perhaps the setting is bugged. I was getting a lot of lag there also, but when i truned it off it speeded up significantly. Can't remember the rest of my settings exactly, but i have object detail and textures to max, high sun quality and high sun rays, volumetric smoke and lighting, DX10 Enhanced mode - and so far the game runs great for me at 1920x1080.

I wouldn't worry too much about the fps there anyway, it's just a quest hub.

I've just finished up all the quests in the creek zone tonight, really good game for £15 so far. It doesn't quite match the atmosphere of SoC, but it's definately a lot better than CS. Shame it seems so rushed though, the usual attention to detail in the environments is lacking, but perhaps they decided to scale things back and go with huge zones instead. Still it's a great effort from a small developer with small budget and a publisher nobody has ever heard of!

Yeah that camp is a bit of a resource hog, all the grateing, stalkers and water among other things just slows everything down, everywhere else is fine for me.

Also the doctor in that first camp has disappeared in my game :(

Dunno what they changed in the engine tho, the bar area in SoC was fine and there must have been at least 50+ NPC's. It can't help the game is not optimized well for multi cores also.

Guess I'll just put up with the FPS in the quest hubs though since I assume less than 5% of game time will be in them?
