Star Trek general discussion (series, films, rumours)

Also this guy, he does it the old school method with motion controlled models and green screen, raw footage of this at the end of the video.
Quite impressive work. Must take ages to film and edit. Incredible end results. The raw footage at the end must be very, very close to how the original series and early films were doing the external ship views? On the second video, the creator put a comment answering peoples' questions about his budget! It's incredibly time consuming work he's doing, for free, in what I assume is his own time.

I started re-watching Picard last night. Really enjoyed it - I love how when you watch something for the second time, after being away for a while, you see things you didn't see first time around.

Every time I watch picard season 3 I notice more and more things that make me scratch my head, such as:

Since when did a ship under cloak need to decloak to transport people up? In trek 3 they manage to bring the Klingon commander up while cloaked, and I'm sure other eps of tng or ds9 have people cloak beaming.

Why does the Titan seemingly not have the ability to warp while cloaked? They have to warp in then cloak, which renders it pretty pointless as they'll be detected warping in. Trek 5 showed a bird of prey cloak while in warp, and it was a thing in ds9, tng etc.

Why are the intrepids torpedoes so damn slow? A sloth could evade them.

Yes all the above are things that are obviously done for plot convenience and dramatic effect (though the needing to decloak to warp seems an oversight). Just the more I watch it more little things pop out.

None of it makes any sense theres the whole changelings-are-the-enemy and we go through a whole lot of endless back and forth between Picard's crew and the other then at a predetermined point that plotline is simply ditched in favour of oh its all about Data-cum-Lore but no, big twist (not) it was the Borg all along. How to string along as many past friends and foes without any real thought as to how they relate but hey its a greatest hits medley. Whoop de do.

Season 1 was the best and closest to TNG a reflection on what it is to be human we are more than simply intelligence and does sentience require biology and to carry on an existing theme can machine intelligence be considered life? It could almost be topical with the recent trend towards AI as well as the warning that entails. Season 2 was ok, not great, its as if they decided well that was far to cerebral so lets have some wizz bang boom action and car chases and not a lot of story most of it disconnected and jumbled, and 3 was well, just tiresome.

The changling's being involved because starfleet didn't give them the cure was a bit odd as the last scene we see of Odo is him entering the link and starting to heal it, so the cure wasn't needed.

Still I enjoyed it :)
