Star Trek general discussion (series, films, rumours)

Not keen on that. I think it was the song and dance one which put me off. Never got past the first episode of lower decks. Seemed like family guy in space and I didn't enjoy it. I gave up on family guy series 7
I feel you should give it a chance as for the most part it's been consistently good - with the second season producing some genuinely good episodes with kirk to the point that I'm completely on board with them doing a TOS show with a re-cast kirk. Lower decks isn't my thing as I find the animation style irksome, but strange new worlds has been a compelling offering if you can be patient with its attempts to keep the old guard and more modern audiences content at the same time. Which it does quite adequately.

First couple of LD episodes were rough while it was trying to find its place, however the show really settled and toned down the humour and become a fantastic show. It's a love letter to Trek canon. Even the SNW episode that features two of the LD crew in live action was really good.

Not sure how the 19th episode of the 20 available could put you off :D

I'm not one for musicals, and the thought of Star Trek doing one filled me with dread, but I really enjoyed it.

Strange new worlds is imo a modern reimagining of TOS. (But without the negative connotations that "modern" normally means).

By modern I mean that it doesn't tend to get preachy about gender identity, racism etc. in the way discovery did - it seems to have moved the needle back more to the idea that the federation has moved back to peaceful coexistence to the point that it hasn't been an issue for centuries.

I have watched every episode apart from that one. Admittedly I fast forwarded some parts. It's no overly forcing the message down your throat but it doesn't really feel like star trek, just a generic sci fi show with some elements from star trek. I don't hate it like I did STD but I don't love it like I did TNG and the final series of Picard.

I think at some point we "old guard" have to recognise and accept that things change with the time, and that it's ok for it to do so if we want these shows that are beloved to us to live on. I'm 48 here and won't be here forever, and would like star trek to be remembered in its entirety. I will always love TNG, but I will never forgive roddenberry for wil wheaton.

Terry Matalis proved it can be like old trek with a modern look with the last series of Picard but the fools didn't pick up the Legacy series and he went on to new things. I'd have watched his stuff without a doubt.

I might give the cartoon another try.

see here's the thing - while i didn't think season 2 of picard was the best, I was willing to overlook much because of the things that I wanted to see. I miss seing picard. I loved seeing Q again, and the series gave me a kind of closure between the two that I never knew the two needed...I loved seeing the interaction between Stewart and De Lancie. I've come to the point where even with shows that I am critical of, I try to take what joy that I can and dismiss the rest as static and chatter.

It's not been an easy path, but a heart attack will force that kind of perspective. lol

If thats the best they can come up with then I'm all washed up with Trek. Unconscionable twaddle.

To me it stopped with Voyager if I am honest. Enterprise was not bad, but they missed a but opportunity with that one I felt.

The casting for captain was good. Not so sure about the rest of the Enterprise cast. Same goes for the story line. Could have been so much better.
