Star Trek Online

Well ive come to the conclusion that this game will not be worth buying , let alone pay to play it (LOL)

Trekkie fans you enjoy a thoroughly average game though.

I'm not a Star Trek fan unless you count enjoying it as a kid and into my later teens. The new movie is all i've watched of it in more than 12 years.

The start of the game is disappointing ie to me it felt long, drawn out and a little too much work. The feeling of being alone only compounded that. The storyline and quests really picked up and got me interested by level 14 though and now i cant wait to try out the next tier. That is something they need to fix, somehow, as most people make their minds up about MMO's within the first couple of days.

I had my reservations right from the start through having played CO in CB, OB then for a few months after launch. Cryptic disappointed me with that game and i hadn't expected it. I'll play this game at launch and for a couple of months after to give them another chance as I've been looking for something different than the normal sword and sorcery type MMO's for a while now and this one definitely shows promise.

I have cancelled my pre order, so far it just feels like a single player game, which for an mmo is not very good.

I cannot understand why they have no home planets, like you would find in most mmo's and just for you to land and look around and train, having to do everything on a starbase kind of sucks.

The whole ground mission system of walking around and pressing f, had been made using no real effort what so ever, half the time your BO get stuck in the map.

The space combat is quite fun, but does not really offer anything that the Homeworld games didnt. I was upgrading a ship like this back in SWG with Jump to lightspeed.

Cant see they will be able to put a load of untested features into a game that is two weeks away from release. I am seeing numbers quoted of 75% of the game isnt available or even spoke about yet, I cant believe that, if its true you must be nuts to invest over £200 into it.

I may take another look in 2/3 months but after Warhammer and Conan I would not invest any large amounts of money into any mmo now until after release.

Starting to quite like STO, its slowly growing on me. Theres a lot of negativity flying around the official forums but in 2 years cryptic haven;t done badly. Sure its not finished but few mmorpgs are when they're released.

Most people are in-game having fun. The trolls seem to have the run of the official forums atm - my reason for visiting as little as possible!

The lag is a bit bad in station u start on and less lag in space iirc.

Hopefully the lag will settle down when they expand the server. It already seems to have improved for me.

Yes, there's sectors that haven't been unlocked yet. Also a lot of the missions and endgame content isn't in.

Can't wait to see Deep Space Nine. :D Hope we can walk around it like Earth Starbase.

Well I've made my mind up...It's total Gash!

It is a truly awful game and has no place in the MMO market.

It is so sad as I was really looking forward to this release but Cryptic have developed a howler. As an MMO fan I just pray and hope that future releases like Jumpgate Evolution and Star Wars:The Old Republic aren't anywhere as bad as this.

I think you can when you get a science ship.

You can in any other ship also :) just grab a tactical officer with the relevant ability, like Beam to shields or something like that :)

Damn! Just tried the escort, 3 dual disruptir cannon IIs and a quantum mine in the rear, need something else. How much DPS? but paper thin tank!

Few things I read today:

Maximum level is now 45 (Admiral Rank 5)
Players can't get infinite skill points now, so no maxing everything out

Apparantly it was from some interview with a Cryptic developer.

Yup, I read this too. Was a little annoyed at first. But it just means that otherwise, if people kept earning skill points - when they raised the level cap you could spend them all and rapidly level up. I hope they increase the level cap very soon after release! Hopefully something more official will be announced soon!
