Well...yeah. Because it was jarring. Whereas the good stuff (99.99% of Patrick's scenes, Santiago Cabrera doing Santiago Cabrera things, Jeri Ryan's huge tracts of land, etc) was to be expected.

On the plus side, at least the plot of the season wasn't 'a mutated child blew up nearly all the crystals in the galaxy (and beyond? Who knows) that make warp engines work because he got sad when his mummy died'...

Not at all. They were, for the most part, well written and enjoyable, in stark contrast to anything that has come out of Kurtzman's stable of shows.

Breaking Bad, The Expanse and Ozark I really enjoyed. Not heard of the other one. But Picard? What a bloody cheesy let down that turned out to be. Hopefully season 2 is better.

No-one did. To do so, you'd have to have a mind like Brannon Braga. And only Brannon Braga - the same guy who brought us Voyager's bat-**** insane "Threshold" - has a mind like that.

Modern Trek writers wish they could write as weird as that. They can get as far as 'makes no sense', but nothing they do has the panache/sheer chutzpah of EVIL ALIEN NAZIS!!!!

Yeah, that show was had so much potential. They messed it up. Still, better than Discovery or Picard though, for me anyway.
