Star Trek: Picard

I really enjoyed that episode although it raises some questions about Star Fleets rather dubious priorities.

Ok they think to have an emergency back up power supply that is independent of the main systems for a holo deck (a system that was specifically cited in several TNG and Voyager episodes as being very power hungry), but nowhere on the ship, even in the "designated common/refuge" areas such as Sick bay do they have any independent emergency life support systems...or even oxygen masks (something you'd want if just in case of a fire/smoke)

Yeah, thought was a bit silly - take all power from everywhere else, but leave the holodeck running - wtf? Even if they did try to get around it by saying it had it's own power source - then why didn't the geeks take the power cell or whatever and use that to bolster their own power? They said they were at 98%, so only needed a small amount! Nah cut life support but keep the bar open.

Also and I know this is me being picky and it's done for the drama, but "life support is off, we've only got a few minutes or air" when there are tens of thousands of cubic meters of air in the ship, and even on the bridge there is hundreds of cubic meters, and I won't mention how life support was off but artificial gravity was still functioning (you can survive floating in zero g for a long time, you can't survive not breathing for more than a few minutes).

Thought the same - the air wasn't vented or anything, they had what was remaining, the systems were just not producing more - there would be enough oxygen remaining to last more than a few minutes. Also, what about shuttles? They have their own air supply, cram those, those remaining - space suits, so many options.

Just started season 1 on prime, pretty good so far, not really a big Star Trek fan but it passes the time nicely.

Any particular standout episodes/season?

Im only about 4 episodes in so far of S1.

S1 and 2 were ok, it was nice to see it on our screens as there wasn't much Trek on at the time. However, the stories were pretty poor - they are smashing it with S3, so stick with it.

Another good episode. I recall while watching TNG of old, I would watch the new episodes a couple of times. I would revisit the whole 7 series many times in the years following. I lost count of the number of times I watched some TNG episodes, they helped me through some very difficult times as a young man. I could hardly stomach a single viewing of the previous two seasons of Picard and the rubbish which was STD. I can sit through an episode (I skipped one which was just so bad) of Pike but he's been emasculated somewhat. This, I can happily watch twice, which is a good sign.

No they are all pretty ****.

And that applies to TNG and Picard Season 1

I never felt TNG season 1 was ****. Sure not as good other seasons and sure it had a few lame episodes, but I still enjoy them relative to what modern star trek is imo.

Just had a bit of a thought, what if say a pah wraith that had some power but not full power yet, made a deal with the dominion and there working together for some reason hence the firey head changeling thing scene, kinda like how one took over jake on ds9 during the reckoning. But this one jumped into a changeling? Why i dunno but kinda a cool thought i thought id share. Maybe the pah wraith might when restored to full with the help of some changelings promised the changelings a return to power and their missing fleet back.

Another thought is since rene has died, i wonder if maybe theres a odo connection with jack, like he has a small piece of him that say if he was in trouble and most of his form died but a small sliver was put in jack to hide from a dominion rebellion and the others are after him. They technically dont need his visuals or voice since he was a changeling he could be female or whatever by now with his shapeshifting skill after returning to the great link. and odo is guiding jack to something.

Now that’s TNG Trek that I miss! Discussing problems and coming up with solutions! None of this cry baby talking about your emotions crap that was Discoballs.

Shaw is redeeming himself just fine and him and Seven make for an interesting duo.

Didn't comment on episode 3 until now but
would someone care to explain how they can fire the portal weapon so quickly all while having next to no impact on the rest of the ship.... something like that would need a serious amount of power to generate....

Episode 4
seriously, shapeshifters ALWAYS have a bucket/pot.... did they forget to watch half the ds9 series or something, yes it was a nice gesture towards Rene, even looked like the same pot, but he ditched that pot and put a damn house plant in it in season 3 all because the great link didn't use anything....

The 'current generation' of star trek crews must be flipping stupid.... the lights kept getting brighter EVERY time they got hit by the bio ELECTRIC energy, yet NO ONE even thought about using it... not a former borg, not the daughter of laforge one of the best engineers ever.

The shapeshifter.... why couldn't it avoid the laser beam like odo could?

I think a lot of us might have forgot to think about larss or the other changlings from the 100. Could he or they possibly be involved.

Shame they only hit stride in the third series. I wonder if the older actors will even want to continue? It would maybe need a different crew as someone said upthread. Frakes still looks decent for 70, mind. Even Wil Wheaton is 50 now!

Yep. Would love a show with Frakes as Captain. Patrick Stewart is just too old now. He is a shadow of himself unfortunately.

Ones I would like to see back in a show would be Riker, Worf, Geordi, Deanna (maybe) and build a new crew around them.

Or just build a show around Worf. Michael Dorn still he still has it. Could have Frakes as director with him having scenes here and there as the admiral.

These days it is only 10 episodes per season so even though these actors are no longer spring chickens, they should be able to deal with that as it would be less than half of what they did on TNG.

Dorn is 70 as well and he looks absolutely incredible!
