Star Trek: Picard

Amazon was on "lets see" base and is unhappy with the product as they believe failed commercially for them.
Netflix used the lawyers and pulled out from Discovery also resulting to rewriting and reshoots in January-February to finalize the series, after the series production was completed in November.

So there is no money to invest regardless of what Secret Hideout was saying for months. According to them, there are still Discovery S4 and Section 31 in production. But there is nobody to put money to produce them.

Also Picard failed on merchantice licences. The only 2 licencees were a cheap wine company and a company making jewelry.

Except it's not an Amazon original, it's made by CBS in the US who ordered a second season before the first had even launched. It's on Amazon internationally but they don't make it. And according to Hollywood Reporter CBS has ordered two more seasons.

The time you took to write this 4 lines you would have used Google or YT. Plenty of content from reputable people.

And in the same time that it took you to type the original post and the above bit of stalling you could have posted a link or three.

*Spock eyebrow*

Though to humour you, I just Googled "amazon unhappy star trek picard" and found nothing that said Amazon was unhappy with the series. If you're not going to link to anything that backs up what you said, perhaps you could at least give me a search term to work with? Ta in advance :)

Picard is the biggest pile of political driven BS.
I haven't watched the last episode don't know if I will it's seriously hard to watch.

It's like getting preached at instead of entertained. It wouldn't be that bad if the script and writing was anywhere decent. Yes Trek covered real world issues but they didn't it in an unbiased way.

Flip Discovery is a lot better than this and that saying something.

This is not Star Trek.....

It's hard watching Picard himself. This once strong captain getting spoke down to and put in his place at every turn.

Also what's up with the cursing??? The human race had moved on from that sort of behaviour.......

I hope they go real hard on the broken federation angle, it's quite funny to watch. It isn't my money they're spending...

Unfortunately I don't see how they can go down this path, it looked like some of that was resolved with the final episode, i'm sure it'll be left unexplained that the Federation is now nice and cosy again. It'll all just be a fever dream.

Given up on this.
Watched about 4 episodes.

It isn't startrek. Just another TV show.
Don't like any of the characters.

Does it get any better

Enterprise and discovery are better.

What the hell.....Episode 10.. jeez...us. you are kidding me this is/was shocking.

oh what a terrible sad way to ruin startrek.

those little next generation "piano and violins" can **** off.

Bring back good stuff just to kill it again for another profit.

oh god series 2 really ? what the actual....

Maybe series 2 as a series of stand alone episodes.. i mean? What... no it makes no sense.

why.... no

Feels like the entire series was a freaking pilot episode for series 2

Terrible, absolutely terrible. Plot, characters and the acting were all terrible. I don't watch much TV but even as a non Trekkie that doesn't care about plot holes and just watched it as a standalone series, the worst thing I've watched in a long time.

Amazon funded it is not only the distributor. Otherwise Picard was never going to be made. Initially Secret Hideout went to Netflix with Picard and kicked them out of the door.
They went to Amazon which said that they do not like what was planned and need changes. By that time the series was in production and required major re-shoots which we already saw in between episodes. Some episodes on Picard are from 2-3 episodes with re-shoots. Thats why the series is so disjointed.

Hollywood Reporter, reports what Secret Hideout says. Which is always "positive headlines" trying to find investors. There is none now. Without Amazon money they cannot make Picard like with Netflix money cannot make STD S4 or Section 31. The only product directly funded by CBS only, is the Lower Decks for Nickelodeon. Nothing else is in production because of Shari Redstone wants to clean up the ST mess with the multiple licences.

@JRS is an ongoing saga the whole thing. Is not a single article that would answer a simple question. Secret Hideout (aka Alex Kurtzman) feeds exclusives to the media to keep interests high, pushing for more money that dried out.

This is one of the best reputable channels to get understanding why Star Trek is in this mess.

I will stand only on this. Shari Redstone has decreed numerous times that wants Star Trek cleaned up after the merger (December 2019) of CBS/Viacom again. So nothing under the "Star Trek alternative licence" has to be in production for a year and she personally kicked out of her office Alex Kurtzman when he went for money earlier this month to continue his Star Trek projects.

If you do not know what the Star Trek alternative licence is, which all productions after the end of Enterprise are made (hence they look sht and so totally different), you need to catch up if you are a real Star Trek fan... :)

Trekkies haven't watched Picard, actually the significant majority of us refuse to acknowledge as Star Trek anything under the "Alternative" (25% different rule) licence which sprouted the "Prime" & "Kelvin" timelines in which STD, Picard and the 3 movies are based.

Last production under the Star Trek "original licence" and "Canon" timeline was Enterprise, 15 years ago

And Orville.

Critical Drinker did a good review of the series (can't link due to the occasional sweary). He explains pretty well why the series doesn't work, why it isn't Trek, and why Picard isn't Picard any more. We all got conned by the promise of loved TNG characters, but that was just bait to pull us in and get the series made, but it's actually nothing like Trek.

While I could easily forgive that if it was good, the problem is that it's just badly written characters and story that takes an axe to what we used to love about TNG established lore and characters.

CBS make the show. Not Netflix and Amazon. CBS out in the money to produce the show. Licencing the show to a 3rd party earns them money.

Also there is the animated shows cuŕently in production.

Is there any truth to what you think?

The 25% is just made up b.s. from some unhappy fans.

It is still star trek, as not with all the canon links. Trekked are and have been watching the show.

I did think all along when they mentioned that he was terminally ill and they just had a body waiting there for a new 'host' consciousness - why don't they put Picard in it....

But then seeing Picard die was an emotional and fitting tribute to a character who had selflessly saved the galaxy one last time. He says his first words, everyone's crying. It was at that point, I noticed there was another 15 minutes - and thought that seemed a bit long to wrap things up.

From this point - it all went a bit ridiculous. When we saw him in the simulation - after all the rumours, I was so looking forward to seeing Q again. Like his whole life had been a draw out continuation of the Tapestry episode. But - then when he came back to life for real - like WTF. Why was everyone crying then if they all knew they were going to put him in a new body.

Imagine waking up in a new body only to find out you're still a wrinkly old 95 year old. Like - seriously. You couldn't have shaved off a few of the wrinkles.

And then they 'kill' data. Again - seeing as they're able to manufacture new bodies - couldn't they put Datas consciousness in that - instead of a an extremely complex set of 3 quantum usb sticks? They could have fulfilled his ambition of being human by being equally as human as Picard now is.
