Star Trek

I've part way into season 3 of the original series and I have seen the new film and Insurrection (Film) as well as various TNG episodes and the odd DS9 episode. The original series is awesome, but I'm not massively keen on the later series.

Timber, his arms wide! :D
Sokath, his eyes uncovered!

Watch everything in production order, but everything goes downhill from the point Voyager meets the Borg, so don't be surprised if you find the second half of VOY and all of ENT to be disappointing.

TNG AND DS9 were Star Trek's golden years.

Then I find out he hasn't seen all the TNG episodes

he needs a failboat then. Tell him to study harder :p

TNG was mostly great. I loved voyager as well, but DS9 was just so boring up untill season 4, it was more space-soap than sci-fi. rubbish. Enterprise was crap. In fact the word crap was pre-invented for Enterprise - they saw it coming:rolleyes:

Wow other ds9 fans! Love ds9 as it has the most interesting and best written characters in it, people like o'brian and dr. bashier are awesome! I think its the only one where Rodenbury wasnt shouting YOU CANT DO THAT SORT OF STORY to the writers... (dont quote me on that one)

TNG i quality too! Though it doesnt get good till 3 and season 7 is when they are getting a bit stuck for ideas. Voyager gets a bit repetitive as there only so many things they can do, but the character development is pretty good and when they put in 7 of 9 theres ever reason to watch it :D

Didnt like enterprise as much though, the zindie are a rubbish enemies....

Since you're all here then, which films are worth watching?

I've seen First Contact and Nemesis, as well as the newest one (surprisingly and refreshingly well presented!).

Timber, his arms wide! :D

Now if I was one of those barely rational Star Trek fans who know far too much for their own good I would point out that the quote from the episode 'Darmok' was actually, "Temba, His Arms Wide".

But I'm not so just ignore that.

DS9 is a bit slow to get started with but I definatly recommend you to check it out sometime. The one gripe I have with the series is the whole religious bajouron aspect, which starts getting boring quite fast.

Voyager is really good, I think it peaks in the 5th season and then a few lamb episodes start cropping up, but all together a really good series.

The next Gen - Really good series, although I'm still yet to see all the episodes in order.

Enterprise I think should be erased from existance, you know its bad after hearing the introduction theme. The characters are not interesting at all, the vulcan woman is a particualy bad actor and the bloke who drives the ship is even worse. There are a few episodes which are alrite, but on the whole a bad series.

Hope that helps in any shape or form.....I thought the new movie was awesome and I thought It was good to break the mold and put a different spin on things.

O God I recognised the quote too, I'm doomed!! :D

Grew up watching TNG on BBC2 every week

Love DS9 esp from S4 onwards. Voyager & Enterprise not so much (except when the writers were v good)

id say ds9 kicks into gear once the defiant comes into it ..along with worf ..season 4 onwards is very good.

but then again it got its arse handed to on a plate by BABYLON 5 which was so superior in plot and characters it wasnt funny .

and farscape kicks them both into touch :)

Babylon 5 is Godlike, and you are correct has some of the best characters and plotline of any Sci-Fi show. I actually rewatched the entire thing earlier this year and other than the rather dated CG (by todays standards) its still as awesome as ever. The new couple of eps they made are good also.

That Bajoran diplomate Vedek what ever her name is really annoys me.

Just started series 3, they're about to start fighting the Dominion :)

I assume you mean Vedek Bareil Antos, he isn't a diplomat 'as such' ...he is a Vedek, the second highest rank in the Bajoran spiritual hierarchy, I suppose you could roughly compare that to a Bishop.

I always thought he was quite an interesting character myself, the plot does touch on the fact that there was more to him than met the eye, unfortunately they kill him off before much more can be learned.

I'm going to put on my Star Trek elitist hat now, and say, if you have watched DS9 as far as series 3, and you do not know what a Vedek is by now, I suggest you go and watch the first 2 seasons again :p

While he is roughly a Cardinal/Bishop you have to take account of that on Bajor the governing hierarchy is mainly religion based and the fact that Vedek Bareil was often found negotiating I would say he fits nicely into the roll of a diplomat as well.

Oh her, yes, she is a thoroughly unpleasant character. She becomes Kai at the end of season 2 and remains so until the end of DS9, I always think of her as Kai Winn I suppose :)
