Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (fallen order sequel)

I found the gameplay of Fallen Order very repetitive. It was the story I really enjoyed.

The story will probably unfold into something decent but I'm not expecting it to be super amazing, I'll try to push through.

The combat is pretty fun but Sekiro did it far better and you couldn't switch to easy in that game which you can do here and button mash just fine. You can feel it tries hard to implement souls mechanics which aren't even needed here because it's not the type of game to benefit from them. Level design isn't that great so far either but I hope it gets better.

Some would rather argue that it costs £60 and is totally broken. Point out it can be purchased for a lot less and is playable for you (and many others) and it gets dismissed or ignored because it does not fit the “collective” narrative.
Absolutely, you can get the the game for “free” if you buy a ticking time bomb from AMD…

Anyone tackle the legendary Spawn of Oggdo?

It wrecked me many times (though I hadn't really upgraded my lighsaber powers) and eventually I had to pull two very strong bedlam raiders from a platform above, get them in place on a floor that collapses when you get to the middle and quickly double jump out the way, so I could remain above whilst they fought each other.

They got his health down by 75% before dying and I finished him off.

All for a pink poncho...

The fact that the UI doesn't even support mouse properly and looking at the videos you can see that the keys used to navigate are nonsensical too shows to me that there was no-one in authority involved who really cared about making this a good PC port.

You really need to have someone who cares about PC games and their conventions to be involved to make sure a port looks and feels as much like a native PC game as possible.

Keyboard and mouse UIs and controls are a completely different paradigm from gamepad. Unfortunately it looks like some AAA developers are forgetting that and not getting the right people in to advise and direct the PC versions.

This is why we get issues like awful mouse and keyboard UIs, broken or restrictive keyboard mapping and mouse look stutter which are obvious immediately to any dedicated PC gamer.

The thing is though this game isn't designed for the PC. AAA titles like this are designed from the ground up to go on as many different platforms as possible to maximise profits as much as possible. Fact is PC gamers probably make up the smallest slice of the pie of potential customers, not insignificant but smaller.

I'm sure developers would love to do it differently, but they have to answer to the business people.

The advantage of PC gaming though is no licensing fees to MS or Sony who can take as much as 30% per game sold. PC gaming doesn't have that. Also, remember that when PC games are the same price as a Console game. That 20-30% goes straight into the publishers pocket. Old people will remember PC games used to be cheaper than console games for that reason.

The game doesn’t run “great” on consoles either.
In resolution mode it drops down to 972p at times and ridiculously low frame rate and in performance mode down to 648p and around 30fps.

I'd say more accurately it isn't designed to be played with KB&M.

In fact the opening screen when you boot the games tells you that a controller is the intended method of input.

Even my old 360 controller works perfectly, the people complaining about KB&M have £3000 gaming rigs but can't invest £20 in a controller mechanism that better suits this style of game.

People get laughed at for trying to use KB&M for flight, race and space sims and this is no different - its not what the developer intended you to use.

I wish I found it as funny as you. This area kills the game, it stutters like crazy and I ended up with a headache by the end of this section yesterday. They have a lot of work to do. It’s a shame, because what I’ve seen so far it’s a really enjoyable game. Crazy to release it in this state.

You expect minimum standards for a AAA port on PC, especially when the game costs as much as the console version but there's no physical PC SKUs to worry about or license fees.

These minimum standards include a UI that works well on keyboard and mouse, decent keymapping and keyboard and mouse controls, and game performance that can make effective use of a wide range of hardware, including PC specific features like ultrawide and multimonitor support.

It just takes a team that actually cares. I know how console centric many of these AAA teams are, and it's why specialist companies like Nixxes who know how to make great PC ports are often involved.

I'd say the half-functional keyboard and mouse UI is worse than simply not bothering as it would be more frustrating to use than only allowing gamepad.

However keyboard and mouse is the default control system for PC so it should be supported. Also accessible controllers often use keyboard and mouse as a base. Imagine how frustrating it is for someone who uses head tracking for mouse movement to interact with a UI that only partially supports mouse and which uses weird keys to navigate that don't work with their controls.

What a load of ****, Its called preference... Some people just prefer to use KB/M. Fallen Order works fine with it, I'll be sad if Survivor is not the same controls-wise. I've ordered it now, however I will finish Fallen Order first.
KB/M can indeed be clunky at times where you got to play twister with your fingers. Running jump off a wall whilst using the force to draw in a rope and grab it was a little tricky. I have a Series X controller sat next to me, I'd rather not use it. KB/M is more intuitive for me. I've been using it since the mid/late 90's. Gamepads always feel like a hindrance to me. I get your point but its called accessibility, for a game, a AAA one nonetheless, not to cater properly for KB/M is inexcusable and just straight up lazy. Its not like this is a hardcore simulator that requires specific controllers to get the most out of it.

I totally get what your saying and that's good, but if they sell more console copies which I believe they do then they may not get as much per individual sale but overall make a lot more.

I play with Controller, you're right it isn't designed really to be played with a keyboard and mouse. This just confirms my point though, they're designing a game to be cross platform. If it was designed for anything other than a pad the design would be a lot different.

If you're expecting high standards from companies like EA you've clearly not been paying attention. Why spend time and money making something work perfectly when millions of people will buy it regardless? You get your money fir your share holders etc and then can drip feed the player base with patches, operating a skeleton crew of developers.

It's not right or fair but it's how things are done now.

I've turned FSR off now, and am getting about 60-80 FPS

2160p
Epic settings
Ray Tracing on

Edit - unfortunately it seems to be crashing more now.

I had 2 crashes in 15 hours of gameplay.

Just had 3 in 30 minutes.
