Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (fallen order sequel)

The game keeps crashing the display driver when loading my save since the update. Anyone else?

Edit: I started a new game then turned down texture quality to high and my Koboh save is now loading. I'm not sure what fixed but it could well be a VRAM issue.

Continuing with Fallen Order and in the middle of the second planet but so far it's mostly rather derivative and uninspired platforming with clunky animations on top of that and the combat is way less refined that I thought it would be.
It all feels rather clunky, TBH.

I don't even feel like I'm getting better because on the second hardest difficulty the parry seems to last a lifetime and I'm not particularly pushed by anything, died a couple of times because I can parry way earlier than expected and I still parry stuff so it throws me off.

Not an utterly terrible game and it's sometimes fun but can't see myself bothering with Survivor, especially in its current state, unless it's miles better than Fallen Order.

Well same settings as before (all Epic, FSR off, ray tracing on) and the patched game is no different. Bottom of Koboh in the town fps drops to low 40s, other areas it's 85/90/100 etc - Inside Pyloon's saloon it is fine until the moment you decide to even think about heading towards the exit, then the fps just drops.

I get the feeling these issues are DRM related, Denuvo

Now up to 8 and a half hours, got the mantis repaired. Performance very similar, perhaps a little bit better by 5-10FPS overall. Did have one weird crash where there was a dream sequence/flashback and I clearly went the wrong way. Then it restarted but I couldn't move or do anything at all, but Escape still worked. Reloaded my save and it was fine again. Strange.

Koboh is HUGE, far bigger than anything in the first game and there are still sections I'll need to come back to later. You can really see how PS4 and XBone were holding Fallen Order back.

Well it's nice to see that this is the first game I have played where you can wash your hands after taking a massive dump on the framerates!

I mean, even in Domo's shop it's terrible at under 50fps lol, and then there's the VRAM usage, look here 18GB! and 12GB RAM?!!?!?!?!

Now when the engine isn't having a fit, it runs really really well, it's so smooth and enjoyable, but when the fps dips like above, the experience is severely jarring and breaks any immersion of enjoyment had moments earlier. This happens far too often to simply put up with.

Oh and Rancor was a trifle to kill!

I'm on the quiet fan VBIOS mode on the Zotac trinity, 80 degrees is no problem, the GPU still stays in boost. I don't want the slightly louder default fan mode even though it's quieter than the 3080 Ti FE.

Also read this bit of info on the game:

There was a interview recently with the game director who said EA gave them a option to delay for a few more weeks but the LEAD devs chose not to delay it further so it comes out before Diablo 4 so it's not EAs fault this time
So it is the developer's fault this time round...

If you turn off RT (which I'm not sure does a lot) helps a bit with the stutter/CPU problems. Still loading/traversal stutters but much better overall, the patch has added a few FPS too.

Interesting, before the patch turning RT off made little difference. now though the same areas in Koboh town I mentioned that were getting 40fps are now in the high 70s. Still get traversal/loading stutters though which show up as noticeable frametime wobbles, easily reproduced simply by walking down the stairs entrance to your room given to you by Greez, but at least the Koboh areas are well above 60fps lol. The difference is presented not as an average framerate, but more in the 1% and 0.1% lows where stuttering is more obvious.

RTSS benchmark from just now with RT off:

Code:
39713 frames rendered in 471.282 s
                     Average framerate : 84.2 FPS
                     Minimum framerate : 46.7 FPS
                     Maximum framerate : 112.8 FPS
                     1% low framerate : 47.9 FPS
                     0.1% low framerate : 28.3 FPS

Vs with RT on:

Code:
18630 frames rendered in 201.531 s
                     Average framerate : 92.4 FPS
                     Minimum framerate : 30.9 FPS
                     Maximum framerate : 129.4 FPS
                     1% low framerate : 20.9 FPS
                     0.1% low framerate : 3.8 FPS

Those % lows.... The maximum fps is lower in the above because I didn't enter an area where the max fps can be reached, was just walking around the saloon area going inside and out and running around killing imperial droids.

The frametime when walking down those stairs to your room:

Also, Domo's shop was seeing fps drops to the 40s/50s before with RT on, now with RT off:

On an unrelated note, I noticed in the saloon looking at Bode's jetpack that the lighting effect from the engine creates a shader/shadow effect through the grille on the thruster panels as the engine inside emits light. That's a nice little detail.
