Stargate

I've been looking forward to this for years. Since Amazon bought MGM there's always been rumours of a resurgence of Stargate. Finally we got the announcement we've been waiting for! I was a big fan back in the day, i even enjoyed Destiny and was somewhat disappointed when they cancelled at the end of season 2.

I think there was a graphic novel or something that continued the story of Destiny after Eli put the rest of the crew to sleep. That was an interesting read for sure.

I'm hoping that in some aspect, we finally get to meet or at least learn a bit more about the Furlings that were teased so often in SG1.

One of my favourite TV shows of all time and just saw a random news article that said this was renewed. I had no idea.

I might have to rewatch it from start to finish, but some of the Atlantis episodes drag on a bit.

Some hate for Universe in this thread but I actually think it was crazy good. The acting was another level better than both previous incarnations.

Yeah Atlantis is sadly quite hit and miss to rewatch - the first 2-3 episodes, minus them going to the planet so early, is still some of my favourite TV and there are some great later episodes with the interaction between Rodney and Sam - though ultimately I was never a fan of the return to Earth part of it. I'd love a complete rewrite of it which kept it dark and mysterious and more about the city, Wraith and uncovering the mysteries and so on of the Ancients and their conflict with the Wraith - though I'm not a fan of flashbacks, etc. I think it would work here.

Yeah I love all the new technology stuff and they just didn't explore the city enough, likely cause it would have been expensive in set design.
It just got all a bit boring with the eratus bug virus they made and some of the colonists were just a bit annoying.

Still love the series but I could skip a third of it and not be upset.

That's the thing with Stargate it offers so many different directions they could go in and storylines that weren't explored let alone fleshed out fully - plenty for the writing team to work with so hopefully this will feel like the SG1 etc we knew and loved but with new characters exploring new places / enemies.

Isn't SG1 coming to Netflix next month? Might have to re-sub to watch it again - it's been too long.

Interesting to hear they've decided on London for filming of this new series! If the main set for the home world setup is here that'll hopefully mean it stays UK side for hopefully a good few years. I wonder how much of an incentive there was from treasury to film here!

Filming globally for locations sounds interesting too - hopefully they're planning some nice exotic settings for the series - they certainly did visit some varied "worlds" in SG-1 so looking forward to that.

Starting filming later in 2026 means they must be full steam ahead behind the scenes and hopefully we'll start hearing about casting in the next few months!

Started a new watch through a while back as I don't think I've ever watched all of SG1, now on S4E3, god there's lots of them!

They do get captured quite a bit don't they :D

This is the issue with shows of the past. As much as they were great at the time, there are just so so so many episodes, and as a result a repetitive formula for the "filler" episodes. It would be good if someone could condense SG1 down to just the important episodes.

One thing I remember about SG1 is many planets seemed to look like the woods of Canada

Quite a few times I've thought they could have made an episode into 2 parts, it would have reduced the filler and given them a bit of room for the plot to develop.

The thing is with filler episodes, they pad out a lot of the character interactions and back story, short shows, you wont get that, so wont care about them as much or see why they are the way they are and so on..
