'CHEMICAL PLANT FOUND'

A huge chemical weapons factory has been found in Iraq, according to Pentagon sources.

The facility was found by advancing US troops in An Najaf, around 100 miles south of Baghdad, the sources say.

The general in charge of the factory was arrested by the 1st Brigade of the Third Infantry division and is being questioned, the sources said.

An unconfirmed report by Fox news said the complex is around 100-acres, adjacent to military barracks and surrounded by an electric fence.

Sky News Foreign Affairs Editor Tim Marshall said if the claims are substantiated they will in part vindicate President Bush and Prime Minister Blair.

They have argued the case for war against Iraq on the grounds that Saddam Hussein had banned weapons of mass destruction, including chemical and biological weapons.

The Iraqi regime has always denied this and UN weapons inspectors sent back into the country at the end of last year failed to find any evidence to suggest otherwise.

Iranians take pot shots

Finacial Review
Iranian anti-aircraft gun emplacements and fixed machine-gun posts have opened fire sporadically at British Royal Marine commandos and low-flying US aircraft. The 40 Commando marines were in the far southern town of Fao locked in a fire fight with Iraqi Baath party fighters near the border between the two countries, the Shatt al-Arab waterway. A Royal Marines spokesman said the fire from Iran was inaccurate and ineffective, but puzzling. No coalition personnel were harmed.

CNN
U.S. Apache attack helicopters attacked Iraq's elite Republican Guard units early Monday in an intense firefight that lasted about three hours, CNN's Karl Penhaul reported. Penhaul said the helicopters encountered a "heavy, heavy barrage" of anti-aircraft fire about 60 miles south of Baghdad.

Fox News
Senior Defense officials told Fox News that Special Forces units and a new team called the 75th Exploitation Task Force are now hunting for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

The 75th Exploitation Task Force has Army chemical and biological weapons teams, as well as Department of Defense civilian scientists.

The teams had a list of about 100 targets at the beginning of their mission, but that list has reportedly expanded.
Reported to be en route if not all ready on site at alleged CW factory
