Iraq's charge d'affaires to Tehran has been called to the Iranian Foreign Ministry regarding a missle, which is believed to be Iraqi, that landed in Iran. Iran's Interior Minister Abdolvahed Moussavi Lari cited an expert examination of the missile, which indicates that it was Iraqi-made.

British 42 Commando have now been tasked to replace the US Marines in cleaning up resistence in Umm Qasr. Theory is that 42 Commando with their Northern Ireland experience will be more suited to street fighting than the US Marines are.

you know sparki was telling me this, this morning. I have noticed the bbc are always a bit behind the news. I guess this is because they get their facts right first time

US Marines are the premier US force tasked for urban warfare. Slightly worrying if they cant hack it.

I heard this being said on the BBC this morning ;)

US Troops only have one experience of urban warfare - Mogadishu - and as we know, it didnt know too well, but much of the British Military has vast experience of Urban warfare due to N. Ireland.

Anyone got any more news of the latest in Basra?

Why are we doing this?

"Ajami Saadoun Khlis, whose son and brother were executed under the Saddam regime, sobbed like a child on the shoulder of the Guardian's Egyptian translator. He mopped the tears but they kept coming. 'You just arrived,' he said. 'You're late. What took you so long? God help you become victorious. I want to say hello to Bush, to shake his hand. We came out of the grave.'"

Yep, this appears to be the view of many people who have managed to flee the regime.

If only more people who's listen to them.

TROOPS NEARING BAGHDAD

British and American troops are reaching a "crucial moment" in the war in Iraq, Tony Blair has told the Commons.

Coalition soldiers are just 60 miles from Baghdad and on the verge of a clash with Saddam's elite shock troops, he said.

"It is a little way from there that they will encounter the Medina division of the Republican Guard who are defending the route to Baghdad. This will be a crucial moment.

"They will resist strongly. They are the elite that are hated by the local population and have little to lose."

He remained confident, though, that the coalition would be successful.

"The vital goal is to reach Baghdad as swiftly as possible thus bringing the end of the regime closer.
