I heard this being said on the BBC this morning ;)

US Troops only have one experience of urban warfare - Mogadishu - and as we know, it didnt know too well, but much of the British Military has vast experience of Urban warfare due to N. Ireland.

Anyone got any more news of the latest in Basra?

Why didnt it go well? only 18 dead compared to thousands (unknown for sure) enemy.

Although the UK troops may be more experiance dont make the assumption that US soldiers cant handle it:)

Although the US troops could handle the situation, you have to admit that the Brits have more experience in ths area of combat, since all soldiers have a tour of duty in NI.
Likewise, there will be areas where the US forces have more experience.

BTW, Jon Snow was giving that US chap a real hammering about Afghan 'POWs'. The US was lucky it wasn't Paxman.

I did admit that UK troops have more experiance with Urban Warfare:)

Pentagon Brief

The Bus carrying Syrians approached a bridge as a Coalition plane attacked it. After weapons release the bus entered the view of the pilot, however there was nothing he could do and the bus was unfortunately hit.

Any info on what went wrong?
The Tornado was returning in formation with the rest of his flight. They were flying the correct approach. For an unknown reason the Patriot was fired. The flight leader reported seeing the missile approach and fly past him.

There were initial reports that an AWAC plane failed to ID the Tornado and ordered the launch. This latest info seems to cast doubt on that.

From interviews on BBC 24 earlier today

BBC
the United States believes authority to use chemical weapons may already have been delegated to the Iraqi commander in the south of the country.
He is Ali Hassan al-Majid, nicknamed "Chemical Ali" because of his alleged role in the gassing of the Kurds at Halabja fifteen years ago.
BBC being slow here this was first leaked 9 hours ago. Chemical Ali is one Iraqi who has been reported as dead, killed in the decapition strike.
