US forces say they have bombed a building in the southern Iraqi city of Basra where about 200 paramilitaries loyal to Saddam Hussein were believed to be meeting.

At least 50 Iraqi soldiers are reported to have been killed in an attack by US helicopters.
The aircrafts attacked units of Iraq's elite Republican Guard, destroying some 25 vehicles, a senior officer said.
"We fired 40 missiles and we had 40 hits," Major Hugh Cate told Reuters news agency.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi state television has named the man behind a suicide bomb attack on a U.S. checkpoint which the U.S. military says killed four of its soldiers. The television said President Saddam Hussein had awarded the man, Ali Hammadi al-Namani, two posthumous medals. It said the attack, which took place earlier on Saturday, had killed 11 U.S. soldiers  and destroyed two tanks:rolleyes: and two armoured personnel carriers:rolleyes: .
