STD tests

I hate the stigma attached to STD clinics - its so important to go if your sexually active with different partners..

In my opinion the government and to a certain degree GP's needs to do more to educate peeps at a young age to go as a routine and not to be embarrased about it!! But our education system is **** for sex education.

I go every 6 months or so and to different ones ; the process seems to vary from place to place. It also depends on what you say to the doc - i.e. if they think your becoming ill over worrying about possibly having HIV they can do a 30min test and some places in London do it as standard.

Reading clinic one cultures your swab test and has the results for things like gonohorrea (sp?) , chlymedia and to a degree herpes (but its hard to detect unless you are having an outbreak) in about 15mins. Blood test then for syphilis/HIV/Herpes.

Southampton one is funny because its a student hospital and so you sometimes have students with clipboards watching the process as well which is always funny :) They do ask you if you mind or not though.

So if your sexually active get your self down there!! Its an experience in the least :)

Things to note*
Gonohorrea is tested for in your mouth, bum and penis.
HIV tests are best taken 3 months after possible exposure because your body may not have produced the anti bodies that are tested for until 3 months after exposure - but as far as I can gather in most people it can show within 2 weeks?
Herpes like Warts etc can reoccur like coldsores.
Some strains of the virus that causes warts can be quite serious for females as this is one of the main causes of cervical cancer - if you have it though they will advise more regular tests for you so they can keep an eye on it. If you are very concerned there is a vaccine for it - controversially not offered to men.

Mine was a 'zit' of some sort and it wasn't spotted when the doctor had a look down there. It only developed 2 days before i was due to be seen and it is getting smaller now anyways. Basically no sex for 2 weeks, only active for around or under 2 weeks and then it goes away again. My general 'area' itches a bit at the moment.

I don't have cold sores, i think i have a type 2 or something like that so not a bad 'version'. It is however a virus after all. I still need to read-up on the leaflet given to me..just waiting for my partner's results and see if she has it. It is a strong chance she does but as i said above, it is impossible to tell who gave it to who.

Seem very calm about it all :P

It only hurts like hell on the way out. Good luck.

No sex for 2 weeks? Going from on average twice a day for 2 weeks to nothing is NOT going to be easy. She got checked anyways a day after so it'll be interesting to see if she actually has it.

Calm? Stressed and exhausted from my sleep problems. :(

^^^ how far down ? someone mark with mspaint :D

I don't dare attempt to mspaint it,

But a) it's not a cotton bud. Its like you know those little plastic things you get to stir coffee? it's just like one of those but red and smaller, goes down about 1cm~ takes a sample. You also go pee in a little tub. Wait 30minutes and get the news.

It's not painfull in the slighest, uncomfortable at worst. But its over in 10seconds.

I'll spare the full details becuase I doubt anyone cares. But if anyone is curious about what EXACTLY happens etc etc I'll type em up :)

After spending a lot of time researching and speaking to a few close friends, i am honestly not. I'm about to go and speak to my partner...she will not be happy as i have worked out that it is my fault, well unless she has been lying to me which is unlikely.

I've also asked a few old flames..and so on..i'm now stuck with this for life, that's it. I can't get rid of it, it's inside of me now.

Literally, i am running out of things to think about so am i taking it very well? No. It's not funny and i believe i may lose the love of my life for it.

I can only imagine the turmoil and heartache after getting a positive STD check, i had one a couple of years ago and i worried sick while waiting even though i had a pretty good idea i would be clean. Even had argumants with the missus about whos fault it would be if it came back positive, wich didnt fill me with confidence about her faith :o

I went to one for the first time this morning. Sat in there for about an hour and a half as it was a walk in day so fairly busy.
Felt quite comfortable about it all. Had a blood test, followed by a male having a very quick look at my boy and then a swab taken. Wasn't painful at all and lasted all of a second or two.

Then had to pee into 2 pots, take it to the lab 2 doors down and wait 10 mins for the results.
I'm all clear but gotta ring next week for the blood test results.

I went for piece of mind after reading this thread. :)
