Couldn't see a thread anywhere, but on Steam they have an auction feature going right now, seems to be until the 18th (when the actual Winter Sale starts).

You can turn unwanted Inventory items into Gems, then use those Gems to bid on games.

Any leftover Gems you have can be used to turn into Trading Card Booster packs for games you own.

Finally got rid of all the junk in my Inventory

Seems like they're actually giving away a copy of every game (or most of them anyway) in the Steam catalogue every 45 mins. So over 200,000 free games! Even if I don't win any auctions, at least it's a chance to get rid of the crap emoticons that I've been trying to sell on the market for 6 months+

It seems like when it comes to steam items beyond games (trading cards, skins hats etc) people either have loads of them or none with zero idea on how they work or what they do.

I am firmly in the 2nd group. No idea what trading cards are about - nor badges and steam level.

Yeah, there was a pretty obvious exploit (obvious enough for me to spot it). Buy 1000 gems for 3p on the market. Use ~660 gems to create a booster pack. Sell the booster pack for 30p (or whatever). Buy 10 x 1000 gems on the market. Don't know how the hell they didn't spot it.

Apparently people are duping the gems somehow, so it's not worth bothering with at the moment.

Havent they sorted that out? Sure i read that it was all sorted now in the steam forum thread.

It's a shame that every time steam try to do things like this people ruin it, but also silly that it's even possible.

I'm wondering whether to bother changing my items to gems or just sell them all. I have sold 33 backgrounds so far, that have been up for sale for months. So people must be buying loads of cheap backgrounds to craft gems with...

They started banning people, if you call that fixing it...

I think they also refunded people money that was used to purchase duped gems on the market.

I haven't heard anything about an actual fix.

Haven't they changed it so the gems aren't marketable or tradeable and looks like you can now only craft one game booster pack per day. Or is there another glitch?

I have decided to get rid of all my crap and now have 7260 gems in my account. Might just use them to craft a few booster packs as I doubt i'll win any games with some of the current bids.

Wow, 2 foils in one day. Never had a single foil for the seasonal badges before.

WTF this is literally the most pointless thing ever, you realise by selling the cards you make back more than the gems are worth immediately

20 cards at 0.05p average = £1

Borderlands £29.99 = 600 cards at 0.05p which is 20 gems = 12000 gems LOL

Max bid is currently 66,800 gems so approx £167 for a copy of borderlands the presequel.

Sell the cards to these idiots then keep the real money in your steam wallet for the christmas sale!!

Pointless converting the cards, but the backgrounds and icons just don't sell and you end up with 10 pages of crap in your inventory.

Both foils now sold for 80p each giving me back the cash I had before I crafted these badges. You can pretty much raise your level for free once you get to lv40.

yeah but the backrounds are 10 cards to craft, so 50p spent for a 3p backgound generally, does anyone really care about levelling their steam profile???????

Yep loads of people do. some games have 6 cards to craft a badge and the cards are 5p each. So when you get a booster pack that gives you 3 of the cards its then just 15p to get the badge. Complete the badge during a winter/summer sale and you get a winter/summer sale card that's worth 20p or so. This is usually what I do, so it's free to raise your level. The higher the level the more booster packs you get.

I'll leave it once i reach lv50 and then just sell all the booster packs I get. I have to admit, i do enjoy unpacking the boosters in the hope of getting a foil.
