The bids are insane so I'm not going to bid on anything because I would never win it (or want to at those prices). So is it better to just sell the gems or craft booster packs?

Just sell the items for cash and don't create any gems. The amount of gems required to make a booster pack pretty high also.
 
Booster packs are dropping down to 15-18p a pack, so sell emoticons and backgrounds for 5-6p each.

3 x 6p = 1 Booster Pack
10 x 80 gems = 1 booster pack

Make's more sense!
 
So is this another Steam farce with all the cheaters/rich kids getting all the spoils? I've seen bids with 1 million+ gems on them so far.

so far I've bidded on 3 game. using 90gems, 1000 gems, 80 gems and im well within the top 100 on each game so as round ends you'll get closer to being the to top bidder and if i drop down a place i just up the bid alittle....

let the high gems bidders burn they money on the first few rounds.

yea that gem thing didn't make any sense crafted around 20 cards if not more was able to get 1 booster pack for csgo worth 1200 gems 351 gems left and only received 3 cards should have just sold them
 
Some of those bids are mad. I've melted down pretty much everything in my inventory and have about 3600 gems. Where are people getting hundreds of thousands of gems?
 
The whole thing is a big con.

I turned a few cards into gems only to find that the bids on games are stupidly high.

You're better off selling items than turning them into gems.
 
The guy bidding over a million gems must be incredibly rich or mental to spend all that on a temporary profile theme :eek:.

I can see various profile themes being the next money maker for valve. If they make them permanent and you can sell them on the market they will sell for loads.

Can't believe how much easy money Valve makes on this digital guff. Selling cards for 5p with 3p for me and 2p for Valve. And Valve probably aren't paying any taxes on it.
 
Gem bags have risen in value by about 10p since yesterday. Just sold the rest of mine as I have to go to work soon and foresee the price crashing by the time I get home. Theres a good chance it could go the other way and keep rising though.

Wish i'd have bought a load when they were going super cheap. I was a bit late to the party this year :(. Still, got back the same amount of steam shekels in my account as I had before crafting 29 badges, so quite happy with that.

Did anyone here buy a pile of gem bags?
 
Missed everything worth buying this year, didn't realise the badges started so early and the gem bags! - Been trying to play catch up trading... :(

Managed to get some badges done & still not lost profit, plus people are trading holiday cards for normal cards, so profit to be had!
