Valve Corporation has today rolled out their Steam Mac OS X client to the general public and confirmed something we have been reporting for two years: the Steam content delivery platform and Source Engine are coming to Linux. One thing that puts me off Macs is lack of games. If they work just as well as on Windows I would honestly consider one.

How is this even possible without DirectX?


Mac support would be a nice boost for PC gaming in general.

There's a reasonable amount of opengl games (not as many as dx obviously, but still a fair few).
 
Not a huge surprise since Mac OS and Linux are very similar, but still very welcome. Hopefully more games will be compatible on all 3 platforms in future and gamers will have a real choice in what OS they use.
 
The only reason I still have Windows on my Netbook is for a couple of Steam games, if they worked in Linux - bye bye Windows.

Sadly I doubt they will :p
 
As long as this doesn't take support away (less updates etc) from the Windows version, I'm fine with it.

It is one thing for them to release the Steam client, it is another to convince publishers of other than Indie games that developing their AAA titles on different O.S's is worth it.

The day they release Battlefield 3 on Mac is the day I post a photo of my ass on these forums.

The day they release it on Linux is the day I go full frontal.
