It is one thing for them to release the Steam client, it is another to convince publishers of other than Indie games that developing their AAA titles on different O.S's is worth it.
The day they release Battlefield 3 on Mac is the day I post a photo of my ass on these forums.

No, but first they need a way to actually distribute it to them. I can't see the Mac/Linux section appearing at your local GAME store anytime soon even if there was a small catalogue available. Digital Downloads is the simplist way and you need the Client compatable before you bother with the games.
It'll just be the first step really.
