Steam Deal: Medieval II: Total War™ £2.49

Just played both tutorials it wasnt exactly what I thought but its still good fun for £2.50

Civilisation is still something I havent played. It a good building game?

Its not reallya building game (ie caesar pc game) but you do establish settlements. Similar to this (MIITW), except you start off at the dawn of time up to the future if you can be arsed and can play world / european maps or random. Except you do not field armies like MIITW, you smash stacks of units into each other with a random number generator, or dice.

So to speak.

Only started playing the stainless steel mod yesturday and im hooked. Im currently playing as the english on M/M settings in the early era heres whats going on:

I started off by building my economy up and getting more troops ready to take your. By turn 4 i made my way to York only to be beaten by 1 turn and scotland took it.
Deciding not to go to war with them....just yet i turned my army towards Wales. 3 turns later i took it with ease, while this was going on i made alliances with france and aragon and sent my spy to have a look around Scotland.
Once again i was late with taking the rebel settlement to the west of my castle on the french coast, but this time it was my new allies who took it. I decided to go east and try and take the other rebel base, which i failed against and lost one of my generals in the process.
With a full stack of troops and prince William leading them i decided the scots were left alone long enough. I started to besiege York, which went down with ease all i did was starve them out and they didnt even want to battle.
Now a few turns later im pushing Prince William and his men up north to take the scottish capital, i can see a full stack of scots and a quarter full stack right next to them. Ive decided to hold my position as there waiting on the top of a hill, so im sending more forces to come help, ideally more archers could be handy.
Whats next for me im not sure but my plans are to take scotland and ireland. And maybe go have a word with the spanish as to why they dont want to be friends. And as for the moors i just dont like them, and im bound to bump into them when i finally decide to take spain.

Well im on turn 72 and im getting my ass kicked.........

I held the coast of france just south of england and two out of three provinces the french took back. So i sacked my last one and got the survivors back across the water.
The danes sent a whole stack of troops and took nothingham, which ive only just got back.
I tried to take ireland, but there a crazy bunch and drove me out aswell.
The good news is ive taken scotland and im still making profit (about 2000 a turn) but the problem is im low on troops.
Im not sure what to do now except get ireland out the way. Then what should i try to take france again or leave them be and go further a sea and take the fight to the danes.
At the moment the pope is on my side and ive managed to get one of the french provinces taken away by a crusade which the aragon won.
Any tips, is there any hope as im already on turn 70, with so much to do.

Im sort of tempted to start all over again, but this time do a short campaign but on VH/VH but really think what im doing and really be a strategist.

O its like shogun played that a zillion years ago , wasnt very good at it though lol

Yup its the same game essentially through the series. Except the campaign maps are different..

Game: Expansion Pack:
Shogun TW + Mongols
Rome TW + Alexanders
MTW + Vikings
MIITW + Kingdomss
Empires + Crap DLC

Probably cost me a small fortune over the years...

I get this when I start the launcher... fail.

I know you can start the game anyway, and change the settings from within it, and I've done that. But, I gather you need the launcher to work if you want to launch the Kingdoms expansion which I may (have wanted to) buy in future.

Yeah I get that too, not sure why, game still runs OK of course. The one thing I hate is the UI, looks like it has been dragged in from the 90's, I don't remember it looking that bad.

fantastic game its the best out of all the total war games...you need to play it a a high difficulty level though as its way too easy on easier settings....if you want to change your difficulty settings in a game you have already started then download medmanager:)

That is it working actually.

When people mean the launcher is not working, that screen doesn't show at all.

I have had run time errors on that page for a while (year+ now?) - its got something to do with lack of feed for the surveys/news iirc.

You need to go into the install directory (Steam folder) and change the Launcher.exe to Launcher2.exe and change the original .exe to 'Launcher.exe'. When you start the game it'll come straight up.

I expected all the updates etc to be included with the Steam download but apparently not. I have no idea which updates I need and some of them are 700mb~

Which is the original exe which needs to be changed to Launcher.exe?
