Somewhere in the middle.
I Know when Valve first introduced steam people were quick to slate it, and say its resource hungry and rubbish etc. But personally i never had a problem with it.

My view on it now, is that its a fantastic system and it works flawlessly for me. Ive bought a couple of games on it, they downloaded at 400kb/s. Then were instantly playable.

Quicker than going to a shop and cheaper with the dollar exchange rate these days.

Any initial haters been converted?

Whats your current feeling on Steam?

i actually think its great.

it has got a lot of bugs, but you cant deny the complete ease of it... you don't even have to goto the shops to buy games :D

no CD's to mess about with, and you can back uip your games onto dvd's etc... fantastic

it isn't without its little problems however

Been good for me largely, although it does have a habit of displaying one type of an error or another.

Can usually be fixed by visiting steampowered or a reinstall :\.

I like it though, keeps track of where my friends are and I can then join in the fun :P

I like it now that the bugs seem to have been sorted out. The only downside I can see is that older games seem to be more expensive than buying online/high-street.

I've always liked it to be honest. Never had a problem I can think of, and I picked up HL:ep1 for about 6 quid recently, so no complaints here :)

Nope I can't say I like steam after my brothers account got disabled for no reason. But it does seem to be working OK for me. And I need it because I play HL2DM on a regular basis.

i've always liked it 37GIG worth of games cant be bad really , never had any problems.

The only thing i hate is that it makes me want to buy games...then i end up buying 2-3 games a month ...

It's probably the biggest piece of crap ever to grace the gaming world.

I'd rather put a rampant virus on my computer than let Steam grace it.

i like it, alawyas works for me! the only issue i hae is that when i shut down it alawyas comes up with a message saying its not responding blah blah balh, end program now! other than that its very good and i like CS:S

Can you explain why you hate it so much? Its just i cant understand from my own experience how anyone can feel that much hate towards it :)

can you play say HL2 single player when you're not on the internet? if no, then its a little lame..

but i don't have any troubles with it myself, when it first came out the sheer number of people downloading it etc made it slow and crappy, but now its sweet :) -preloading games, downloading games, its all good

Where do I start?

It takes up hard drive space, it takes up memory, it serves no real useful function that can't be done otherwise (and quite easily I might add).

It also gives Valve total power over the games you have on it - they can simply stop you playing them, even if you've done nothing wrong.

And it's so plain stupid to use, i've tried really hard to get to grips with it. But 99% of the time it simply wanders off and does pretty much whatever it wants.

It's a pity, as i've wanted to play HL2, so i've spent the past month or two trawling the web for a non-Steam crack, not much luck yet though (I did make a thread on it too).

I like it!
I get ****** when I lose a disk for a game (Freelancer is a good example, I'm on my 4th disk now!)

O look, I've just reformated!Crap!!! I've lost my HL2 disk *Idea!*I'll sign into steam and download it :D
