A: Unfortunately, yes. All retail copies have to have a copy of Half-Life 2 in your DVD-ROM drive to let you play the game.

Mine seems to let me play both HL2 and CS:Source without the original DVD in the drive. Weird.

Maybe they've changed it now.... as lots of people were moaning about it etc. You got no other image of the DVD on the system?

No other image. Just installed it all from the DVD, which didn't take as long as I was expecting having read some reports.

I just happened to start it up once without the disc in the drive and immediately thought "oh damn this is going to bomb out", and it didn't, worked perfectly.

maybe yesterdays patch via steam negates having to have the dvd present now

Possibly. Not had it that long and I can't honestly remember whether I played it without the disc before or after the Steam update.

it is a basta*d i have 2 play it downstairs till i get wireless should be next week sometime tho, its worht it just 4 cs!!
