Steam IS coming to OS X

Sadly not had anyone offering me large sums of wealth, naked ladies or land for it. Knew I should have signed up with something cool...

Awesome, looking forward to some native OS X infected bashing. :)

:D

Alas, my purchase of a new iMac fell through, so while you throw molotovs at the Tank from the comfortable shinyness of a Mac, I'll be sat behind a butt ugly PC. :( *sobs*

I could swear my sign up date was as early as possible because I was involved in the testing of the beta platform, and I'd been using C.S since the beta days. I remember the day they launched Steam officially.

Oh well, but it's a bit random where that date is from

EDIT: I know.. I changed account because I forgot my old password and couldn't get access to the email as it was an epically old Tesco.net dialup email address haha

Much as I love my Mac, I do miss my PC. The gentle hum of a watercooled quad sitting in a Coolermaster ATC-201, sat behind my 22" Sammy. Good times, good distant times. :(

I remember that day too, I also remember constant "Steam is updating" messages for about 2 months... actually who am I kidding, it still does it now!

A challenger appears!

(..I seem to have had a lot of epeen milage out of this over the years :p)

Dah! e-peened!

Ah, the good old days of original CounterStrike. There was something just perfect about that game. Think it was the engine and the feel of the weapons.

I remember asking myself "Do I need the C.S 1.4_*A1 source file, or the C.S 1.4_*A3?"

As it was dial up you had 1 shot to get it right, or risk another 3hr download :D

The other aspect of being on dialup was raging at the minority of LPBs due to ping jealously

I think CS got ruined when everyone must have finally got bored of playing the same mechanics for the 10,000th time and all the public servers got loaded up with awful Warcraft-Zombie-LowGrav-Super-XP-Mod add-ons.

I quite liked the superhero mods. Not so much the Warcraft ones.

Flying around as Batman, while people shot Cyclops beams everywhere was a nice change of pace from de_dust.

I read somewhere over the weekend that the older integrated graphics cards would not be supported in steam for osx, can anyone confirm this?

Seems utterly ridiculous, in bootcamp, source engine games are perfectly playable on low details on my intel x3100, gladly I am not often away from my gaming PC but it is nice to play stuff while I am away sometimes. Wonder why they would drop support for it in osx while it works fine in windows :/

I assume those screenshots are from the Windows version? Or have you been able to get the OS X client ahead of time (beta)?

The screens with the players joining dates could be taken from Steam's website Feek, hard to tell because the web interface looks similar to the client GUI, in terms of color scheme at least.

There are means and ways of getting the client, can't do anything with it mind aside from launching and using the client features like chat etc..

Maybe Valve requires OpenGL 3.0 support and Intel haven't (or won't) deliver a new OS X driver for whatever reason. Pure speculation on my part.

According to the first post in this thread:

Source games will not run are not supported on the X3100 or 900-series Intel chipsets. [1]
An anonymous source in the Beta program told me that while the X3100 and 900-series GMAs are not officially supported, you can still run Mac Portal, and get 10-15 FPS on lowest settings on the X3100.

As good as this is (Steam OSX) your still better off using Windows/Bootcamp and probably always will be simply because of the wealth of games and driver updates available under windows.

Why?

All i want to play is CS:S and HL!

I don't want to have the other tripe forced down my neck thanks.
