Steam IS coming to OS X

You know, i can't believe how excited i am for it. My i7 MBP will be perfectly capable of playing these games, but i just know i won't other than maybe the odd LAN Counter-strike: source game at college.

Im counting down the steam time hours till i get this on the go :D (though i all ready have fm as its mac compatible out the box on cd anyway...)

Cant wait to see what else starts coming to mac over the next few months too!

Any sign of this yet?

Am i also correct in my understanding that they are trickling out the games on a weekly basis and Portal and some other cack is coming today? (Valve time permitting)

I wanna play TF2 :/ (and dont want to boot PC :p)

Nothing, just a bunch of kids on the Steampowered forums who should be in bed getting all antsy about someone posting a link to the client binaries.

You wouldn't know it by going to the Steam home page, but you can in fact download Steam for Mac now—the secret link is live. Click here. Update: AND, here's how to start playing immediately:

1. After you've installed Steam for Mac and gotten it ready to go, go to Steam's Mac beta page.

2. Click on this Portal ad in Chrome or Firefox.

3. Tell it to open the link using Steam—your Portal download will begin immediately.

4. Rejoice. (And download TF2 once Steam servers stop being busy, so I can shoot you in the face.)

So. Excited. I just hope Steam's servers stop melting.

Just read that for the workaround, still nothing official though. That said there are guys on the SP forums installing and playing Lucasarts games.

That worked for me but as soon as I closed Steam and reopened it, I got the error about the closed beta. I'm going to wait until it's officially available.

BTW, anyone worked out where the downloaded game files are stored? I deleted it but there was only 10Mb or so in application support/steam which is where I'd expect the content to be and I'd grabbed 50Mb or so before I paused the download.

Client just updated again, literally 10 seconds ago. Can now launch Steam properly without the beta enrollment message. Only see Portal in my list of games, TF2 has disappeared.

Getting closer...

TF2 just disappeared from my list too :(

KF is just sitting there but Torchlight downloaded and runs :D

I see there's a 'mac games' category.. which removes L4D as it's "not available for your platform".
