Steam IS coming to OS X

Performance of Portal is pretty poor if im honest.

HD4870 512Mb and it can just about do 4xAA, Windows version I could be doing 8x AA no problems! Solid 60FPS in HL2.

Needs some more work.

And @ Feek, i'd like to know this too, I want to move it to my boot disk, not my documents disk, I don't quite see why I'd want an app in my documents folder. :/

Does anyone else have Team Fortress 2 missing on their games list even though it should be there?

yes its missing for me as well, even though all my other games are on the list

It's not been released today. Wait till next Wednesday, or the Wednesday after that.

whats with the face palm  l4D has not been released yet but is still on the list as well as all the other games you can still bring up the details of them just not download them in your library

...I know that... :o

So are you saying that all the games i have in my list are mac games?

If you read my question i was asking if anybody has Team Fortress 2 but it's not showing in their games list on steam...There is going to be HL2 and CS:S so why are they in my list?

Thanks for the answer Steveo, glad i'm not the only one. If i log into the web steam then go to games it is there.

Just got Torchlight, thought what the hell!

Mate said it was good so would be nice to have at least 2 games i can play till next week. Please let it be TF2 and CS:S!

Unfortunately, OpenGL 3 simply can't compete with latest versions of DirectX. The Mac versions of games will never perform as well as their PC counterparts and there's not much that Valve can do.

Quite impressed with the performance, was expecting worse. Quite bugging and unresponsive at times though.

There's a noticeable difference in performance between Mac Portal and Windows Portal, the Mac being the slower of the two. Work is definitely required on the OS X Source implementation. Definitely a step in the right direction, but expected more from a 9600 at 1440x900.

I can't close my Steam client without it hanging with a spinning wheel, I have to force close which generates a program error.

All in all I can't help but feel the release, although progress was a bit of an anti-climax. I'd hoped to be able to play online, Portal is a good game but it's a bit dull once you've been through it twice. All this smacks of a rushed release on an aggressive deadline, further underlined by the staggered release of games every Wednesday to buy the testers/developers more time. :(

Just buy Torchlight, the game runs superb!

The performance for me is fine. I'm running the 9600 at 1680x1050 and it runs fine. It saves me from having a stupid windows partition installed and also means i'll end up playing the games more. I've played WoW a lot solely because it's on the mac side.

One gripe i have so far is that the actual steam application seems a bit bloated on the mac.

In that case then someone, somewhere needs to get their backsides in gear.

Apple could and should push things along...

According to a recent Phoronix Review of the performance across Win7 Ubuntu 10.04 and OS X 10.6.3, the issue might actually be Apple/Hardware Vendors fault, for not writing good enough graphics drivers.

It's a little disappointing I guess, but it's native games on OS X; the overall experience might not be exactly the same as Windows, but that doesn't matter to me so much right now, I'm sure it'll improve as Valve / Apple / Nvidia / ATI work on it, as I'm sure now they have a good reason to!

I reckon 10.6.4, and it's purported graphics driver improvements will help us no end here. Judging by recent reports, it looks like this update is imminent too.

Ruh roh! I may avoid this for a week if this is the general experience.

It's not too bad on the whole, but I'd definitely expect a couple of client updates over the next few days.

Hasn't done it several times now, seems to be related to it having performed a game download, since it finished downloading Portal it's been fine.

edit: also stop quoting my quitted.
