Steam Link and Steam Controller now available to Pre Order

Ok, so pretty much all my major issues with the Link have suddenly cleared up. Seems like each and every time I try and tinker with it, problems go away for god knows why.

Connecting fine now.

Audio works.

No problem switching back to cable TV input.

Soooo, now that I've finally had a chance to use it proper, it's pretty nice. Image quality isn't all that good, but it's not dreadful. I can definitely live with it for many games where I dont care about the graphics so much.

Performance is ok. Bit of occasional lag, but nothing that I think is going to hamper my experience with the games I'll be playing on it. Probably wont be playing much fast-paced competitive stuff with it.

Few issues with certain games:

- Cant run GTA V because a pop up from Windows asks me if I will allow it to change crap. I *really* hate this pop-up and wish there was a way I could turn it off for certain applications. I could run upstairs and hit Yes and then continue, but that's too annoying to deal with on a regular basis.

- Black Ops 3 is stuck in splitscreen mode trying to do Campaign mode. I'm guessing it's picking up both kb/m plus my 360 controller and assuming there's two people trying to play? Either way, it doesn't work properly.

- Trials Fusion, a Uplay game, will load up, but it wont display.

Have you enabled the hardware encoding on the host in the settings? The graphics for me are absolutely fine, and I also get no lag but I don't use wifi. I've got mine on a gigabit link.

Also, plug a mouse into the Link and you can answer messages that come up :)

Thats the only frustrating thing about steam and big picture is you always have that dosconnect from being a total console like experiance when you have to get up and move a mouse to close something!

Does the steam controller let you deal eith that with the track pads for a mouse or anything?

Yeah, this happens quite a lot. I've disabled UAC, and I've installed VNC on my desktop and phone so that I can quickly connect and hit OK without moving my bottom from the sofa. :)

Now recieved and processed at national hub! Does this mean fun time tomorrow? No ones home though so what do parcel force do?

I had the same thing. They failed the delivery, I went on their site and arranged to pick it up next day from their depo (free). Other options were a free redelivery next day at the same address, about £5 to have it delivered to another address and £1 for it to be dropped off at your local post office depo.

:( tracking says delivery attemlted now so ive missed it too!

Having trouble with mine. I can't get any kind of decent image quality with GTA V, it just looks a blocky mess :(

MGS V looked okay, but the edges of textures look a bit weird - I don't know if it's the Nvidia encoder or if the TV is doing it as it's being upscaled from 1080p to 4K.

5.1 would be nice but i'm curious as to how much that will impact the audio latency. I already know from experience that the DD:Live and DTS:interactive encoders have quite a large impact so having to encode the audio at the pc end and stream may cause too much audio lag. Streaming uncompressed 5.1 PCM is probably out of the question too so i'll be interested to see if/how they solve it.

sorry i could not find it, any help :)

didnt even see a control option ?

So go into the menu, hit controls (it's the huge picture of a keyboard!), and go to the "Gamepad" tab:

Under "Split screen" there'll be an entry in there for the xinput (control pad) for player two. Disable it and you'll be good.

You should be able to sort something to get it tomorrow instead then. Unless they were kind enough to leave it with a neighbour.

Thanks mate all is well, the slip in the door says its at my local post office to collect so i assume any time in the morning like usual! Not fussed about not having it to day but am glad i can have a mess around over the weekend :)

Got everything crossed that it works well on my network!

I'm playing through GTA V and Metro Last light, both look pretty decent for me streaming to a 1080p TV.

you'll most probably need active repeaters for both the hdmi and usb but yeah sure it'll be better if you can do it.

Active repeaters couldn't you just route it neatly down the stairs etc as log as you tack it so it can't be seen. The USB cable would end in a hub. I imagine this would be lag free and show uncompressed

both hdmi and usb can be hit and miss at that sort of length. I used to have my pc on the other side of the room to my desk and monitor. i length around the room was 15m give or take. I just got away with hdmi but i needed a usb repeater in the middle of the usb run otherwise it didnt work at all. your mileage may vary.

Ah cool, thanks for sharing - interesting indeed. After the best uncompressed setup I can get and not sure how to achieve that.
